Among The Virtues Of The Prophet’s City | Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen (Rahimahullah)

Among The Virtues of The Prophet’s City- By Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen (Rahimahullah)

Imaam Muhammad Bin Saaleh al-Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah) was asked about the statement of the Messenger (sallal-laahua-alayhi-wasallam) that: ‘’Verily Imaan returns and goes back to Madeenah as a snake returns and goes back to its hole.’’[1]

Answer:

In this hadeeth the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: ‘’ Verily Imaan returns and goes back to Madeenah as a snake returns and goes back to its hole.’’ The word (يَأرِزُ)-Yarizo with a kasrah on the letter Raa can also have a Fatha or a Dammah (on the Raa). And the meaning of (يَأرِزُ) – Yarizo is that (Islaam) will return and it will be established in Madeenah, just as a snake returns to its hole after exiting it. This is an indication from the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alahi-wasallam) that this religion will return to Madeenah after the other lands become corrupted, just as a snake goes out and roams about in the earth, and then returns to its hole after that.

In this hadeeth is also an indication that just as Islaam did spread from Madeenah, it will also return to it; for indeed Islaam’s strength and authority did not spread except from Madeenah, even though its origin was in Makkah. Makkah was the first place where the revelation came down, but the Muslims were not able to establish a state, authority and Jihaad except after migrating to Madeenah. So for this reason, Islaam’s authority, enforcement and strength spread from Madeenah, and it will return to it in the end of time.

And some of the people of knowledge say that this (hadeeth) is indicative of an affair that has preceded, and that people did come to Madeenah and return to it in order to acquire the knowledge of the Sharee-ah and to study Islaam. However, the first meaning is what is apparent from the hadeeth. [2]

Restrict Yourself To The Authentic Narrations | Imaam Muhammad bin Saaleh al-‘Uthaymeen (Rahimahullah)

Imaam Muhammad bin Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [May Allah have mercy on him] said:
“I advise my Muslim brothers to have [a strong] desire to [act upon] the affirmed Sunan of the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] and leave that which has not been affirmed; for indeed the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi wasallam] did not leave off anything that is needed by his Ummah [nation] in their worldly affairs and affairs of the afterlife; rather he made it known.”

What Does “Muhammad is The Messenger” Necessitate? – Shaykh al – Allaamah Ahmad bin Yahya an-Najmi

Al-Allaamah Bin Ahmad an-Najmi ( May Allah have mercy on him ) said :

“As for the meaning of the declaration that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; it is the declaration that the Messenger is the Messenger of Allaah – obligated with the [task] of disseminating the Sharee’ah which he carried; his Ummah (nation) are obligated to believe in his message and that he does not legislate except that which Allaah has ordered him to legislate, and he did not utter except that which Allaah commanded him to convey.

Therefore, it is compulsory to obey him in what he ordered and to keep away from what he forbade. And [an act of] worship is not accepted from a servant except that which has been legislated by the Prophet. These  two declarations are the fundamental pillars of Islam and they are the conditions [to be fulfilled in order for] deeds [acts of worship] to be accepted. Deeds [i.e. acts of worship] of any servant will not be accepted except through belief in the Messengership of Prophet Muhammad and that it is obligatory to follow and obey him.”

A lofty benefit and ruling in Soorah Al-Hujuraat—Imaam Abdul-Azeez Bin Baaz

Imaam Abdul-Azeez Bin Baaz (rahimahullaah) said:

”In this great soorah there are lofty benefits and rulings. The Muslims are greatly in need of understanding and being conscious of it, and they are to take benefit from it. In the first part, there is a warning against putting oneself forward before Allaah and His Messenger, and that which is incumbent upon the people of Eemaan is that they should be followers and not innovators, and that they do not put themselves forward before Allaah and His Messenger.” [Source: Al-fawaa-id Min Ad-Durar Al-Baaziyyah: page391: vol: 4]

Neither speak until he (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) speaks nor act until he commands you!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Allaah (The Most High) said:

”And know that, among you there is the Messenger of Allah. If he were to obey you (i.e. follow your opinions and desires) in much of the matter, you would surely be in trouble, but Allah has endeared the Faith to you and has beautified it in your hearts, and has made disbelief, wickedness and disobedience (to Allah and His Messenger) hateful to you. These! They are the rightly guided ones,  (This is) a Grace from Allah and His Favour. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.” [Soorah Hujuraat: Ayah 7-8]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim said:

Your love for Imaan, desire for it and its beautification in your hearts is not from yourselves; rather it is Allaah who placed it in your hearts.  He is the one who made it preferable and pleasing to you; therefore do not put yourself before Allaah’s Messenger–neither speak until he speaks nor act until he commands you.  The One (i.e. Allaah) who made you love Imaan is the most knowledgeable concerning what is of benefit for His slaves than yourselves.  And had it not been the Tawfeeq of Allaah upon you, your souls would not have yielded to Imaan. Imaan would not have been (acquired) through your consultation and bestowed from yourselves, nor would you have given it precedence; because your souls are unable and weak to (do that), and cannot reach it…. [1] Intro: The difference between legislated and innovated acts of worship

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah) said:

Indeed, there has been much confusion in this subject matter just as it is the case in the subject matter of halaal and haraam.  Indeed a group of people make permissible some of the things which Allaah has declared impermissible and others declare impermissible some of those things which Allaah has made permissible.  Likewise some people innovate acts of worship that have not been legislated by Allaah; rather He (The Most High) prohibited them.

The foundation of the religion of Islaam is that the permissible affairs are those that Allaah and His Messenger have made permissible, and the impermissible affairs are those that Allaah and His Messenger have made impermissible.  It is not allowed (or befitting) for anyone to leave the straight path which Allaah sent His Messenger with.  Allaah (The Most High) said:

وَأَنَّ هَـٰذَا صِرَٲطِى مُسۡتَقِيمً۬ا فَٱتَّبِعُوهُ‌ۖ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُواْ ٱلسُّبُلَ فَتَفَرَّقَ بِكُمۡ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ‌ۚ ذَٲلِكُمۡ وَصَّٮٰكُم بِهِۦ لَعَلَّڪُمۡ تَتَّقُونَ

”And verily, this is my Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His Path. This He has ordained for you that you may become pious’”[6:153]

Abdullaah Ibn Mas’ood (radiyallaahu-anhu) reported that the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) drew a line for us and said: ”This is Allaah’s Straight Path.” Then he drew lines to its right and left and then said: ”These are other paths. Upon every one of them there is a devil calling towards it.” Then he recited: وَأَنَّ هَـٰذَا صِرَٲطِى مُسۡتَقِيمً۬ا فَٱتَّبِعُوهُ‌ۖ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُواْ ٱلسُّبُلَ فَتَفَرَّقَ بِكُمۡ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ‌  ”Indeed this is My Straight Path, so follow it. And do not follow other paths; they will separate you from His Path.” [Hadeeth reported by Imaam Ahmad  in Al-Musnad 4437]

Indeed Allaah has mentioned in Soorah Al-An’aam, Soorah Al-A’raaf and other them regarding the deeds the idol worshipers were rebuked for, when they made impermissible the things that Allaah (The Most High) have not declared impermissible, such as the Baahirah (i.e. a she-camel whose milk was spared for the idols and nobody was allowed to milk it) and the Saa’ibah (a she-camel let loose for free pasture for their false gods, e.g. idols, etc., and nothing was allowed to be carried on it).   They (also) made permissible those (deeds) which Allaah made impermissible, such as the killing of their children, and they instituted a religion which Allaah did not allow.   Allaah (The Most High) said:

أَمۡ لَهُمۡ شُرَڪَـٰٓؤُاْ شَرَعُواْ لَهُم مِّنَ ٱلدِّينِ مَا لَمۡ يَأۡذَنۢ بِهِ ٱللَّهُ‌ۚ

”Or have they partners with Allah (false gods), who have instituted for them a religion which Allah has not allowed.” [42:21]

And there were impermissible affairs which they established as acts of worship, such as shirk, and lewd behaviour, such as Tawaaf around the Kabah, whilst being naked.

Ruling on Chain Messages – Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan

Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzan was asked about chain messages which are sent telling people to send peace and blessings upon the Prophet  -May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him- and forwarding it to (for eg) 10 people so as to attain good deeds by way of it.

The Shaykh -may Allah preserve him- answered: This is an innovation, this is an innovation; the origin of sending peace and blessings upon the prophet is legistlated and is a good thing, however specifying with sending it to “x” amount of people is an innovation with no evidence supporting it.
