Do not be deceived—you may not be described with what you know

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

How many people know about love of Allaah, its rulings and all the affairs it necessitates; but his heart is deprived of it?! And how many a slave knows and bears witness to the pre-decree of Allaah and the excellence of sufficing oneself with Him; but when that which has been decreed takes place in opposition to what he likes, you see him anxious—having neither tranquility (and) certainty nor repose?! And only the one whose heart has acquired knowledge and awareness of Allaah in truth is tranquil about Allaah being sufficient for him, whilst submitting to His judgments, whatever the state of affairs may turn out to be.  And how many people know the rulings of trade and its details; but at the time of dealing, buying and selling, he does not deal in a beautiful manner with others?!  This is the same in many affairs with regards to this pattern of behaviour.

Therefore, do not be deceived when you know something that you will be attributed to it, and that is why it is legislated for the slave to ask Allaah for beneficial knowledge, and that is knowledge that produces actions (as its fruits).  And Allaah knows best.

The saying of Allaah: –[وَٱعۡتَصِمُواْ بِٱللَّهِ هُوَ مَوۡلَٮٰكُمۡ‌ۖ فَنِعۡمَ ٱلۡمَوۡلَىٰ وَنِعۡمَ ٱلنَّصِيرُ]—with a short Faa-idah from Imaam Ibnul Qayyim

Allaah (The Most High) said:

[وَٱعۡتَصِمُواْ بِٱللَّهِ هُوَ مَوۡلَٮٰكُمۡ‌ۖ فَنِعۡمَ ٱلۡمَوۡلَىٰ وَنِعۡمَ ٱلنَّصِيرُ]

”And hold fast to Allah; He is your Maula (Patron, Lord, etc.), what an Excellent Maula (Patron, Lord, etc.) and what an Excellent Helper!” [1]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) said:

When you hold fast to Allaah, Allaah will protect you.  Allaah will help you against (the evil urges) of your souls and shaytaan. These are two enemies that do not separate themselves from a slave (of Allaah). Their enmity is more harmful than an outside  enemy. Therefore being given help against them is the most important thing and a slave (of Allaah) is more in need of this (than other things).  And the completeness of this help (against the urge of the evil self and shaytaan is obtained) in accordance with one’s (level) of attachment to Allaah. What should I do? I did not complete the Final Tasha-hud…[Imaam Bin Baaz]

Question:

It is well known that the Final Tasha-hud is a pillar from the pillars of prayer; and in one of the prayers I did not complete except a little bit of the Tasha-hud, so should I repeat my prayer?

Answer:

It is upon you to complete the Tasha-hud, even if you missed some (of it whilst praying with) your Imaam (i.e. the one leading you in Salaah); because according to the most correct saying (or view) of the scholars the Final Tasha-hud is a pillar (of the prayer), and there is the Salutation upon the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) in it. Therefore, it is obligatory to complete it even after the Imaam’s Salaam (i.e. after he finishes the prayer). And from it (i.e. the Tasha-hud) is seeking Allaah’s protection from the Hell fire, the punishment of the grave and from the trials of life and death, and from the trial of the Dajjaaj; because the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) commanded with seeking (Allaah’s) protection from these four (things) in the Final Tasha-hud, and that is because some of the people of knowledge consider that to be an obligation.

The 3 types of oppression – Imam As Sadi

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

An excerpt from Imam Sadi’s Sharh of the hadeeth:

“اتقوا الظلم فإن الظلم ظلمات يوم “القيامة

Fear oppression, for indeed oppression is darkness on yawmul qiyaamah.
Agreed upon
———–
The shaykh says at the end of his sharh that there are three types of oppression:

1, A type that Allah does not forgive, and it is associating partners with Allah

“Indeed Allah does not forgive those who associate partners with him” An-Nisa; Verse 48

2. A type of oppression that Allah does not leave anything from it; and it is the oppression of the slaves one to another. So from the perfection of Allah’s justice is that he will punish the creation, in accordance to their oppressing each other.

3. A type of oppression which is under the will of Allah; if Allah wills he will punish him, and if he wills he will forgive its people, and (this oppression) is the sins which are between the slaves and his Lord, regarding that which is lesser than shirk.

‘Indeed Allaah is Pure and He does not accept, except that which is pure’

The Messenger of Allaah (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said:

‘Indeed Allaah is Pure and He does not accept, except that which is pure’

Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al Fawzaan (may Allaah preserve him) said:

In this hadith he (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) described Allaah (جل وعلا) (saying) that Allaah (سبحانه) is Pure.  He (سبحانه) is Pure, meaning: He is free from all imperfections and deficiencies.  He is Pure in His Essence, in His Names and Attributes and with regards to His Commandments and Prohibitions.  He (سبحانه) is Pure in every aspect and imperfection cannot reach Him; and for that reason He does not accept actions, statements and intentions except that which is pure.  He does not accept filthy statements, actions and intentions.  He does not accept except the pure, as He (The Most High) said: [إِلَيۡهِ يَصۡعَدُ ٱلۡكَلِمُ ٱلطَّيِّبُ وَٱلۡعَمَلُ ٱلصَّـٰلِحُ يَرۡفَعُهُۚ  ] ‘To Him ascend (all) the goodly words’[Surah Faatir Ayah: 10]

He (سبحانه) does not accept, except good speech and good actions…up until the Sheikh said: As for filthy speech, then indeed Allaah rejects and hates it; such as lies, backbiting, tale carrying, abuse, false speech and false testimony and all filthy statements; (such as) shirk and kufr.  All of this is filthy speech and does not ascend to Allaah, and is not accepted.

The Aim behind seeking knowledge—Shaikh Saaleh Aala Shaikh (may Allaah preserve him)

The questioner asks:

I sought knowledge for a number of years but despite this, neither have I consolidated the knowledge based information (sought after) nor am I aware of the benefit (acquired from that). So what do you advise me? May Allaah reward you.

Answer:

Do not say that you are not aware of a benefit because a student of knowledge is (considered to be engaged) in worship. The aim behind seeking knowledge is that the slave receives Allaah’s (The Mighty and Majestic) Pleasure.

You all know of the man who went away to repent, so the angel of death came to him (i.e. took his soul). Then the angels of mercy and the angels of punishment disputed about his affair; the angels of mercy said: He came along being repentant and remorseful in his heart in the presence of Allaah; the angels of punishment said: He has done no good at all. Then another angel came in the form of a human being in order to decide between them. He said: Measure between the two lands (i.e. to find out) which of them he has drawn near. They measured it and found him nearer to the land where he intended to go (i.e. the land of the pious people), so the angels of mercy took possession of him.

This repentant man was forgiven because his steps (towards repentance) were recorded for him. Therefore the steps of a student of knowledge towards knowledge are an act of worship, similar to the steps of the repentant migrator towards the land of goodness.  Seeking knowledge is better for you than supererogatory prayer or some of the supererogatory acts of worship; therefore there has to be a truthful intention (behind it). Then the benefit will (arrive) bit by bit.

And the aim is not to become a scholar or a student of knowledge initially; rather the aim behind your seeking knowledge is to remove ignorance from yourself—worshiping Allaah (The Mighty and Majestic) with correct acts of worship and that your Aqeedah is sound; to become submissive to Allaah; safeguarded from doubtful affairs that are made to resemble the truth and from seeking fame.

Allaah (The Most High) said:

[يَوۡمَ لَا يَنفَعُ مَالٌ۬ وَلَا بَنُونَ]

[إِلَّا مَنۡ أَتَى ٱللَّهَ بِقَلۡبٍ۬ سَلِيمٍ۬]

The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail; except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. [26:88-89]

Allaah (The Mighty and Exalted) said:

[إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ إِنَّا لَا نُضِيعُ أَجۡرَ مَنۡ أَحۡسَنَ عَمَلاً]

Verily! As for those who believe and do righteous deeds, certainly! We shall not suffer to be lost the reward of anyone who does his (righteous) deeds in the most perfect manner. [18:30]

If you never benefited except yourself and your family, then there is great good in this.

Obedience to the Muslim rulers–Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan (may Allaah preserve him)

Question to Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan (may Allaah preserve him):

‘How do we reconcile the Hadith: ”Whoever is killed while protecting his property, then he is a martyr” (1) and the Hadith: ”You should listen and obey the ruler even if he flogs your back and takes your wealth, then still hear and obey.”(2)
Answer:
”You should hear and obey the ruler even if he flogs your back and takes your wealth.”  This is with the Muslim Ruler. (i.e. this is the manner the Muslim is expected to behave with the Muslim Ruler). As for protecting one’s wealth (by way of resistance), this is (done) with other than the Muslim Ruler.  If an oppressor, or a thief, or a robber, or a highway robber wants to take your wealth, then you defend (i.e. defend yourself) even if you are killed.  If killed, you are a martyr.  As for the Muslim Ruler, you do not resist.  Even if your wealth is taken, you do not resist; rather exercise patience due to the greater evil (i.e. the greater evil that may come about from resisting).   So there is differentiation between the Muslim Ruler and someone among the people (i.e. oppression received from someone among the people)

Question:
What do you say to the one who says: ”Indeed the hadith (i.e. the above hadith) nurtures the Muslim upon weakness.”

Answer:
The Hadith nurtures the Muslim upon obedience and strength.  This is because obedience to the Muslim Ruler is Strength and not weakness. He leaves this (i.e. this resistance against the Muslim Ruler) for the sake of a universal good and (for the sake of) uniting the word of the Muslims.  The people of desires want to do away with the authentic proofs so that they can safeguard their views.  This is their intention.  They bring doubts in the aayaat and the ahaadith in order to safeguard their deviated views.
