In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Shaikh Muhammad Al-Anjari Al-Kuwaiti said to Shaikh Muhammad Bin Umar Saalim Baazmool (may Allah preserve them):

”Indeed the khutab (sermons) of the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) used to be every week; the circles of knowledge and lessons were continuous; but despite of this the majority of the ahaadeeth came from the Messenger’s (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) day to day living with the Sahaabah and not from the khutab (sermons) nor lessons. And in this is an important emphasis that a scholar and a student of knowledge is to live (closely) with those around him; so the affair is not just about giving lessons and going away; rather this living together (closely) has to be (present).”

He [Shaikh Anjari (may Allaah preserve him)] spoke the truth; for indeed the affair is just as he stated because living (closely) with the people, dealing with them and being close to them is the foundation that should be observed in spreading the religion and dawah, and in teaching the people.  And it is (reported) in the hadeeth: ”The believer who mixes with people and patiently bears their harm will have a greater reward than the believer who does not mix with people and patiently bear their harm.’’ [1] This is the way of the Prophets.
