Khutbah: Recommended Fasts After Ramadhaan

Fasting does not end at the end of Ramadhaan. Allaah has legislated other fasts which we can engage in to still attain the benefits of fasting and to keep us in that state of discipline & mindfulness towards Allaah.

Allaah has blessed that we were in the month of Ramadhaan and He has blessed us that we have completed the month.

Righteous deeds and the worship of Allaah do not end with the end of Ramadhaan. They should continue after the month of Ramadhaan.

Fasting in the month of Ramadhaan brought so many benefits for us, taught us many lessons, patience, perseverance, self control, self discipline. These things we can carry on outside the blessed month.

Let us all safeguard what Ramadhaan taught us. Let us safeguard those benefits and let us safeguard that purification & cleansing that we attained during the blessed month.

I was eating and drinking but then realised that the time of Suhoor had finished? Shaykh Ahmad bin Yahya an-Najmi (Rahimahullaah)

Shaykh Ahmad bin Yahya an-Najmi (Rahimahullaah ) was asked:

Question: What is the ruling on the fast of one who ate or drank thinking that Fajr has not appeared, (but then) it became clear that it has appeared; or (he thinks) that the sun has set, (but then) it became clear that it has not set?

Answer: “If he ate or drank (whilst) doubting (whether) Fajr has appeared and it is not clear to him, his fast is correct and there is no Qadaa upon him (i.e. he does not have to make up for the fast on another day). As for if it is clear (to him) that he ate or drank after Fajr appeared visibly without any doubt about it, then upon him is Qadaa (i.e. he has to make up for the fast on another day). Likewise, if he breaks the (fast) thinking that the sun has set, but then it became clear (to him) that it has not set, then upon him is Qadaa” ( i.e. he has to make up for the fast on another day).

Shaykh Ahmad bin Yahya an-Najmi (Rahimahullaah ) was asked:

Is it compulsory upon the fasting person to eat sahoor (before fajr)?

“It is not compulsory, but it is recommended because the body gains strength and energy (to fast) by taking it.”
