A Supplication When Entering and Exiting The Masjid

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Supplication When Entering

In the Name of Allaah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allaah.

O Allaah! Open the doors of mercy for me.

Supplication When Exiting

In the Name of Allaah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allaah.

O Allaah! I ask You for Your Bounty.

Regarding the statement [اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ – O Allaah open for me the doors of mercy], it is said (i.e. by the scholars) that perhaps the wisdom behind this is because entry into the masjid is connected to seeking after the afterlife and mercy is a specific thing pursued in relation to the afterlife. And exiting the Masjid is connected to seeking after livelihood in worldly life and this is what is intended by the word [فضل – Bounty], which the statement of Allaah [The Most High] indicates to (in Surah Al-Jumu’ah) as follows: [فَإِذَا قُضِيَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَانْتَشِرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَابْتَغُوا مِنْ فَضْلِ اللَّهِ – Then when the (Jumu’ahSalat (prayer) is finished, you may disperse through the land, and seek the Bounty of Allah (by working, etc.) [62:10]

It is said (i.e. by the scholars) that the one who enters the Masjid busies himself by doing what will draw him close to Allaah, earns him Allaah’s reward and Paradise; therefore the mention of ‘Mercy’ is suitable in this instance (i.e. the mention of mercy in the supplication when entering the masjid). And when he exits the Masjid, he goes about in the earth to seek after the bounty of Allaah – good and lawful provision; so the mention of [الفضل- Bounty] is suitable in this instance. And Allaah knows best.

KHUTBA: The Means For Your Dua To Be Accepted | Rayaan Barker

It is possible that due to the things in our hearts or due to the actions of our limbs that Allah rejects our du’a. So it is imperative for us as Muslims to know the means for our du’as to be accepted, for indeed du’a has a high status in Islam.

Ustaadh Rayaan mentions various narrations by the Messenger of Allah (Sallallaahu ‘alahi wa salam) regarding the types of people whose du’a is accepted. He also discusses the explanations of the scholars related to these narrations and the things that create barriers to our du’as being accepted.

Do not hasten to expect your du’as to be answered, for indeed Allah is near and responds to the du’a of the supplicant.

A Short Faa’idah Regarding Sawm and Rectification of The Heart- By Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said:

Righteousness of the heart and its steadfastness upon the path leading to Allaah’s [good pleasure etc] depends on its complete devotion to Allaah [The Most High]. The heart will not be put in order except by turning completely to Allaah [in obedience, submission etc]; but excess food and drink, excess intermingling with the people and excess speech and sleep are among [those things] that increase the heart in decay, distracts it in every way and severs it from its path of [obedience] to Allaah [The Most High] – either weakening or hindering it, or stopping it [from this goal]. Therefore, Allaah’s Mercy necessitates that fasting is legislated for the [believing] servants in order to [divert them] from excess food and drink, and rid the heart of the intrusions of desires, which hinders it from its path [of obedience] to Allaah. Allaah legislated [fasting] in accordance with what is of benefit for the servant, so that the servant is benefited in his worldly life and afterlife – neither hindering him from what will bring about well-being for him in this life nor in the afterlife.

When Are Deeds Likened To Skins Without Flesh And Body Without Souls? | al-‘Allamah Abdur-Rahmaan ibn Naasir as-Sa’di (Rahimahullah)

When Are Deeds Likened To Skins Without Flesh And Body Without Souls?
al-‘Allamah Abdur-Rahmaan ibn Naasir as-Sa’di (Rahimahullah)

Allaah [The Most High] said:

لَن يَنَالَ اللَّهَ لُحُومُهَا وَلَا دِمَاؤُهَا وَلَٰكِن يَنَالُهُ التَّقْوَىٰ مِنكُمْ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ سَخَّرَهَا لَكُمْ لِتُكَبِّرُوا اللَّهَ عَلَىٰ مَا هَدَاكُمْ ۗ وَبَشِّرِ الْمُحْسِنِينَ

It is neither their meat nor their blood [i.e. the animals we sacrifice] that reaches Allah, but it is piety from you that reaches Him. Thus have We made them subject to you that you may magnify Allah for His Guidance to you. And give glad tidings (O Muhammad) to the Muhsinun (doers of good). [Surah Al-Hajj. Ayah 37]

“It is neither their meat nor their blood”- meaning: The aim [or goal] behind them [i.e. the animals slaughtered as sacrifice] is not just to merely slaughter them, for neither does their meat nor blood reach Allaah because Allaah is [الْغَنِيُّ الْحَمِيدُ -The Independent One Who is Free of all Needs and The One Who is Deservedly Praised (Ref A)]; rather what reaches Allaah is the sincerity [in your hearts in relation to the performance of the deed]; hope for Allaah’s reward and having a righteous intention.

“But it is piety from you that reaches Him”.

So with regards to this, there is an urge towards sincerity in [the act] of sacrifice and that one’s intention is to seek the Face of Allaah [alone], and not out of boasting, show off and to be heard; nor merely following a custom. Likewise, this is [the goal behind] all acts of worship, for if they are not connected to sincerity and piety, then they are similar to skins that have no flesh and a body that has no soul.

What is a Person Commanded To Do When Bidah Appears? – By Imaam Ibn Rajab [rahimahullaah]

The Messenger of Allaah (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said:

”Indeed, the one who lives long amongst you will see a lot of differences, and beware of newly invented matters [in the religion] because it is misguidance. So whoever amongst you reaches that, then upon him to hold onto to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided khulafaa, and bite onto it with the molar teeth.” [Reported by Ahmad: 4/126; Abu Daawud 4607; Tirmidhee 2676; Ibn Maajah 43]

Imaam Ibn Ibn Rajab [rahimahullaah] said: In this hadeeth is [the] command that when splitting and differing occurs, [one should] adhere to the Sunnah of the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] and the Sunnah of the khulafaa [radiyallaah-anhum] after him. The Sunnah is a path that should be adhered to and it includes that which the rightly guided khulafaa were upon in creed, actions and statements. This is the complete Sunnah.

The Sunnah is Nourishment For The Hearts – By Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimhullaah]

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] said:

The legislated divine law is  nourishment for the hearts, so when the hearts are nourished with bidah, giving preference to the Sunnan does not remain in them; then [the affair] becomes like [the situation of a person] who nourishes himself with filth.

The Danger of Sitting With Ahlul Bidah – By Imaam Fudayl Ibn Iyaad [rahimahullaah]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Imaam Fudayl Ibn Iyaad (rahimahullaah) said: ‘Do not sit with a person of innovation, for I fear that curses will descend upon you.’

Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him] commented on the above statement, saying: [That is] because punishment, anger and deviation descend upon a person of innovation, so it is feared that you will be afflicted with some of what afflicts him, and for that reason Allaah [جَلَّ وَعلَا] stated:

And when you [Muhammad] see those who engage in a false conversation about Our Verses (of the Qur’aan) by mocking at them, stay away from them till they turn to another topic.  And if shaitaan causes you to forget, then after the remembrance sit not you in the company of those people who are the Zaalimoon [polytheists and wrongdoers]. 6:68

And Allaah [تعالى ] said to the believers:

And it has already been revealed to you in the Book [this Qur’aan] that when you hear the Verses of Allaah being denied and mocked at, then sit not with them, until they engage in a talk other than that; (but if you stayed with them) certainly in that case you would be like them. Surely, Allaah will collect the hypocrites and disbelievers all together in Hell.’4:140

In this is a warning against sitting with the people of misguidance and desires, and against sitting, accompanying and listening to their speech or reading their books.  So it is upon you [i.e. obligated on you] to be distant from these affairs.  And Allaah’s Aid is sought! Nowadays, it is said about the one who acts upon this [i.e. the one who keeps away from the people of misguidance and desires] that he is an isolated [or unapproachable, secluded person etc], a boycotter and that he is one who harbours doubt towards the people.

If People Desisted and Did Not Enter Into Bidah, Certainly They Would Have Attained Safety- By Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Imaam Al-Barbahaaree [rahimahullaah] said:

‘’May Allaah have mercy upon you! Know that if the people were to desist from newly introduced matters, not entering into any of them at all and did not say anything for which there was no narration from the Messenger of Allaah [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] or from his Companions, there would not be any innovation.” [1]

Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him] comments on the above statement:

And ‘’if the people were to desist from newly invented matters [in the religion]”-Meaning: If they desisted and did not enter into them; restricted themselves to the Sunnah and did not leave it for innovations, certainly they would have attained safety.  But whoever relinquishes the Sunnah and innovate statements which have no proof in the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] will eventually be with the innovators and the deviated sects.  And there is no safety except by way of the Sunnah which the Messenger of Allaah [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] left for us. He [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said: ‘’Indeed, I have left amongst you two things, if you hold firmly to them, you will never go astray; the book of Allaah and my Sunnah.’’

And in another hadeeth:‘I have left you upon white plain [i.e. clear guidance], its night is like its day, and none deviates from it except he who is destroyed.’’

This is the path to safety- the Sunnah of the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] and that which his companions were upon…. [2]
