Shaykh Sālih bin Muhammad al Luhaydāān (Hafithahullāh):
“Our era is replete with a lot of time killing, therefore it is not befitting that we make this month a link with the times and months that have elapsed, (such that) a person amongst us waste it away in reading and listening to that which does not benefit, or reading that which harms, and listening to that which neither harms nor benefit.”
restraining your (soul’s desire for drink by being) thirsty out of obedience to your Lord (Glorified and Exalted Be He) and abandoning your desires out of obedience to your Lord (Glorified and Exalted Be He), then indeed Allaah will recompense you on the Day of Judgement by resurrecting you whilst you are satiated with drink when the people are thirsty, the sun a mile over their heads and soaked in sweat to the extent that it (i.e. the water from sweating) will extend from the unbeliever’s throat to his (or her) nose – completely drowned in sweat, and Allaah’s refuge is sought. But as for the believer, he (or she) will be shaded due to obedience to Allaah (Glorified and Exalted Be He).
Question: What is the ruling on using a cream or penicillin (ointment) on wounds – does it break (the fast) or not?
Answer: “As for using cream and penicillin (oilment) on wounds, it does not harm (a person’s fast) because it does not get inside the belly (or abdomen)”.
[Fath Ar-Rabb Al-Wadood Fil Fataawaa War-Rasaa’il War-Rudood’ by Al-Allaamah Ahmad Bin Yahyah An-Najmi (rahimahullaah) 1/324]
Shaykh Ahmad bin Yahya an-Najmi (Rahimahullaah ) was asked:
Question: What is the ruling on the fast of one who ate or drank thinking that Fajr has not appeared, (but then) it became clear that it has appeared; or (he thinks) that the sun has set, (but then) it became clear that it has not set?
Answer: “If he ate or drank (whilst) doubting (whether) Fajr has appeared and it is not clear to him, his fast is correct and there is no Qadaa upon him (i.e. he does not have to make up for the fast on another day). As for if it is clear (to him) that he ate or drank after Fajr appeared visibly without any doubt about it, then upon him is Qadaa (i.e. he has to make up for the fast on another day). Likewise, if he breaks the (fast) thinking that the sun has set, but then it became clear (to him) that it has not set, then upon him is Qadaa” ( i.e. he has to make up for the fast on another day).
Shaykh Ahmad bin Yahya an-Najmi (Rahimahullaah) was asked:
What is the ruling if a person forgets and ears or drinks?
“If the fasting person ate and drank whilst he was forgetful, it does not invalidate his fast, because of the Hadeeth “Whoever forgets and eats and drinks, he shall complete his fast, for indeed Allaah gave him food and drink”.
