Brief Commentary On The Statements of The Talbiyyah’ – By Shaikh Rabee bin Haadi [may Allaah preserve him]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

[لبيك اللهم لبيك – Here I am O Allaah, here I am!]

(The) meaning of it (i.e. the above statement) is that indeed you have made a (profound) covenant with Allah to establish obedience to Him (Glorified be He, The Most high), fulfil His commandments and stay away from His prohibitions. This is the meaning of [لبيك -Here I am]- obedience to You after obedience, answering to you after answering, in other words I am always answering to You (Allaah) and always fulfilling obedience (to Allah). This is the meaning of [لبيك اللهم لبيك -Here I am O Allah, Here I am!]

[لبيك لا شريك لك لبيك -Here I am, You have no partner, Here I am!]:

(A proclamation of) Allaah’s Oneness- that You (Allaah) have no partner in worship. You (Allaah) have no partner in your kingdom ship. You (Allaah) have no partner in Your Lordship. You neither have a partner in Deity ship nor in Your Names and Attributes. We declare Allah [The Blessed and Most High] free from all similitudes and partners in worship and other than it, and (we declare Him free from all similitudes and partners in His) Attributes.

[إن الحمد و النعمة لك -Verily all praises and blessings are Yours!]

All praises belong to You-you have no partner in (this).- you have no partner in providing and bestowing (blessings) to Your Creation (i.e. Mankind, Jinn etc).  You are the only one worthy of all praise in an absolute sense because you are the one Who bestows bounties and the one Who blesses the slaves (i.e. the creation). You created them so that they may worship You and You created this universe to help them fulfil this worship.

Allah is He Who has created the heavens and the earth and sends down water (rain) from the sky, and thereby brought forth fruits as provision for you; and He has made the ships to be of service to you, that they may sail through the sea by His command; and He has made rivers (also) to be of service to you. And He has made the sun and the moon, both constantly pursuing their courses, to be of service to you; and He has made the night and the day to be of service to you. And He gave you of all that you asked for, and if you try to count the blessings of Allah, never will you be able to count them. Verily, man is indeed an extreme wrongdoer, ungrateful. [Surah Ibrahim Ayaat: 32-33)

These are Allaah’s blessings (bestowed) upon His slaves, which He enumerates to His slaves, for He made the heavens and the earth to be of service to them. He subjected the sun and the moon, both constantly pursuing their courses. Pay attention to the sun and the moon- how night and day constantly alternate by Allaah’s (absolute) control. Had Allaah not subjugated them, the people would have been destroyed. They would not have been able to live on the surface of the earth. This (i.e. subjugation of the sun and the moon) are among Allaah’s Greatest blessings, which He (Glorified and Exalted be He) bestowed upon His slaves.

Hence, blessings (come) from Allah alone (Glorified and Exalted be He) and He alone is worthy of praise (Glorified and Exalted be He). All praise belongs to Him (as He said): [الحمد لله رب العالمين- All praise belongs to Allah the Lord of the universe” (Fatiha Ayah 2)]

All praises are for Him (Glorified be He, The Most High). The one who does not praise Allah and thank the people will not thank Allah (The Mighty and Majestic). The people are thanked for all good (they do), but praise belongs absolutely to Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He)- blessings comes from Him entirely and He is worthy of all praise in all affairs (big and small), Glorified be He, The Most High.

[لا شريك لك إن الحمد و النعمة لك و الملك – Verily all praise and blessings are Yours, and all sovereignty]

Sovereignty belongs to Him (Glorified be He, The Most High)- The Owner of the heavens and the earth. All the creation are His slaves- the Angels, the Prophets, the Messengers, the pious and the Kings are His slaves and their forelocks are Bi Yadihee (in His hand). He gives life to whom he wills and gives death to whom He wills. He honours whom He wills and humiliates whom He wills. He acts in His kingdom ship with His (absolute and perfect) Greatness, Loftiness, Overwhelming Subjugation of all things and His Exalted and All-Mighty Irresistible Power, glorified be He, The Most High. All the creation are subjugated (to Him) and all things glorify Him with praise, glorified be He, The Most High. From this, we understand the Greatness of Allah (Glorified be He, The Most High) and His Magnificence. We free Him from all imperfections, affirm His perfection, praise Him, worship Him and thank Him (Glorified be He, The Most High).

This is how it is obligated on the believer to fill his (or her) heart with the love of Allaah and His Greatness- thanking Allaah; paying gratitude to Allaah; testifying to the truthfulness of Allaah’s Akhbaar (i.e. everything He has told us); testifying to the truthfulness of His (revealed) books; belief in what Allah has obligated on us to believe; obey Allaah and fulfil His commandments. All this results from exalting Allaah, proclaiming Allaah’s Greatness and thanking Him (Glorified be He, The Most High) due to the blessings He has provided and bestowed upon us.

This is how it is obligated on a believer to fill his heart with Allaah’s symbols (i.e. the acts of worship Allaah has ordained)- proclaiming Allaah’s Greatness, Exalting Him, Exalting His commandments (i.e. by fulfilling them), Exalting His Prohibitions (i.e. by keeping away from them), loving Him, relying upon Him and depending on Him in every situation. A human being cannot survive at any moment without Allaah’s Mercy (Glorified be He, The Most High). Allaah (Glorified be He, The Most High) protects him (or her), otherwise he (or her) will not be able to accomplish anything, and due to this we say: [إياك نعبد و إياك نستعين- You (Alone) we worship, and You (Alone) we ask for help (for each and everything)]. We are neither able to fulfil acts of worship nor any work in this worldly life, except by way of Allaah’s (Glorified be He, The Most High) Aid.

This is the meaning of the Talbiyah or some of its meaning, which a Muslim must call to attention when he (or she) utters it. That is because many people utter this statement (i.e. the Talbiyah) without understanding its meaning, nor adhering to what it necessitates. So understand the meaning of these symbols of Tawheed which are repeated (i.e. by way of speech) by many (people). Adhere to its meanings and act upon what they necessitate. May Allaah bless you. Every Qualified And Upright Mujtahid Receives Reward, But The Figureheads of Bidah Stir Up Discord And Call It Ijtihaad – [A Hadeeth About Ijtihaad And a Statement of Shaikh Rabee Regarding The So Called Ijtihaadaat of Ahlul Bidah]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Amr bin AI-Aas [radiyallaahu anhu] narrated that he heard Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] saying, “If a Mujtahid gives a verdict according to the best of his knowledge and his verdict is correct, he will receive a double reward, and if he gives a verdict according to the best of his knowledge and his verdict is wrong, even then he will get a reward.
[Bukhari Number 7352]

Few Masaa’il From This Hadeeth

[1] A Mujtahid is not deprived of reward.

[2] The judgement of a non-Mujtahid is different from that of a Mujtahid. Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] said that the one who speaks about the religion without knowledge and out of ignorance, then indeed he has lied and sinned. The one who intentionally speaks to oppose the truth, he is threatened with entry into the fire of hell, as opposed to the affair of the one who speaks based on permissible Ijtihaad, for indeed he strives, fears Allaah as much as he is able, desires to seek knowledge as much as he was able, speaks for the sake of Allaah, knows the stronger proof and speaks based on that. This person is given two rewards if he is correct; but if he is mistaken, he receives one reward.

[3] A Mujtahid can be correct or mistaken. [Reg 1]

Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadee [hafidha-hullaah] said:

We do not say that there are people of ijtihaad amongst ahlul bidah because they are followers of desires, and Allaah and His Messenger have testified to this. The misguided innovator stirs up discord and errs, and then says to you, ‘This is ijtihaad’. When Hikmatiyaar and the misguided parties [in Afghanistan] murdered Shaikh Jameel Ur-Rahmaan, they said: “This is ijtihaad.” They [ahlul bidah] do not fall into an affair of misguidance or a calamity except that they say, “This is ijtihaad.”  This is [tantamount] to diluting Islaam, falsehood, misguidance, bidah and confounding truth with falsehood, when the mistakes of the [true and qualified scholars of ijtihaad]- for which they are rewarded- are placed at the same level with innovation, about which the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] declared to be destined for the hell fire. A Precise Definition of Hizbiyyah [Illegal Partisanship]- By Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadi

Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadi
[may Allaah preserve him] said:

Bigoted partisanship for a particular idea that opposes the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Messenger, and [establishing] allegiance and enmity based upon it, this is Tahazzub [illegal partisanship]. This is Tahazzub even if it is not [done under an] organisation. To formulate deviated ideas and gather the people on it, this is a hizb, regardless whether it is [done under an] organisation or not.

Hasten towards good deeds; for there will be trials which would be like a part of a dark night- [Shaikh Rabee Gives Us An Important Reminder]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadi [may Allaah preserve him] said:

Abu Hurairah (radiyallaahu-anhu) narrated that the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: “Hasten towards (performance of) good deeds; (for) there will be trials which would be like a part of a dark night, wherein (i.e. during these trials) a man wakes up as a believer and becomes a disbeliever by night; or he begins the night as a believer and wakes up as a disbeliever, and a man would sell his religion for a (portion) of the worldly life (i.e. the worldly goods).”  [Saheeh Muslim Kitaab Al-Imaan number: 118]

Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadi [may Allaah preserve him] said:

The author [i.e. Imaam Al-Aajurree] pointed out that a lot of fitan [trials] have occurred–a people were humiliated during it and also [others] were destroyed, such as the likes of Abu Muslim Al-Khurasaanee and [during] the fitna of Ibnul Raawandee.

Many fitan have occurred and from them, the fitna of the khawaarij, the Rawaafid and killing. Deviation and misguidance have occured –either fighting and trials [related] to politics or trials [related] to creed, methodology and what is similar to it.  Many people who were to be destroyed were destroyed  and the one whom Allaah protected was saved and made to adhere to the true methodology.

Indeed, all praises and thanks be to Allaah, many [people] were saved due to the clarity and establishment of this methodology [of the Salaf], just as the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallaam] promised that “There will not cease to be a group from my Ummah manifest and upon the truth –neither being harmed by those who forsake them nor by those who oppose them until the hour is established.”

So Allaah’s proof has been established against the people from the time the Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallaam] was sent until the establishment of the hour.

A time will not come except that His [i.e. Allaah’s] proofs are established.  [These proofs will be] established by the inheritors of the prophets [i.e. the scholars of Ahlus Sunnah], the people of sound knowledge, the ‘Taa-ifatul Mansoorah [i.e. victorious group] that adheres to the truth and will not depart from it until the establishment of the hour. Allaah’s proof has been established against [the people] and through them [i.e. the inheritors of the prophets, the people of sound knowledge, the victorious group] Allaah saves many people, and all the praises and thanks be to Allaah.

So during every trial, they [i.e. the scholars of Ahlus Sunnah] must openly proclaim the truth and clarify this truth for the people. They should distinguish for them [the difference] between guidance and misguidance; between truth and falsehood; the manner in which the people will be safeguarded from these trials; the path through which they will be saved from entering into fitan and other affairs [by way of which] Allaah [The Blessed and Most High] guides this [victorious] group when [they] face every fitna.

And indeed the author reiterated this hadeeth: ‘’A man will wake up in the morning as a Muslim and by evening he becomes a disbeliever.” He [i.e. the author] said that a people will be humiliated; Yes! A man may be upon truth, and then you do not see him thereafter except that he has become a disbeliever! Or a misguided innovator! This is nothing else but humiliation! He used to claim that he was upon good, a possessor of knowledge and upon the truth, but then he falls into disbelief–either Kufr Akbar or kufr Asghar. This is ignominy and Allaah’s Protection is sought.

How many people have been humiliated and exposed by a trial! [Suddenly] you come to know of them and their false claims are unveiled, and their reality is clarified for you.

[3] Shaikh Rabee quotes a statement of some of the Salaf regarding one of the qualities of a just person

Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Madkhali (may Allaah preserve him) said that some of the Salaf stated regarding a just person:  ”The just (person) is the one who when angry is not entered into falsehood by his anger. And when he is pleased, being pleased does not removed him from the truth.

Shaikh Rabee Clarifies Regarding When Someone Would Be Regarded as One imitating the khawaarij In Their Act of Shaving the Head

Question to Shaikh Rabee (may Allaah preserve him):

Our Shaikh-may Allaah preserve you. (Regarding) the statement of the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam): ‘’Their sign (i.e. the khawaarij) will be the habit of shaving.’’ [Saheeh Al-Bukhaari, Hadeeth Number 562, Vol 9] So is the one who shaves a lot in this era similar to them because some of the scholars say that it (i.e. shaving) is not a sign of theirs at present?

The Shaikh (may Allaah preserve him) responded:

Answer: The who does not intend to imitate them, rather he (only) wants to shave his head, this is permissible. (That is) because the initial (ruling regarding this affair) is Al-Jawaaz (permissibility) and he (i.e. the person) does not desire to imitate them. Therefore, this person is not from them, for they (i.e. khawaarij) used to adopt shaving as a sign for themselves in order to distinguish them from the Muslims. They adopted shaving as a distinguishing sign just as the shee’ah adopt black clothing. This is a general distinguishing sign of black (clothing) and what is similar to it, just as the soofiyyah (i.e. the soofees) adopt patched garments and some (other types of) clothing to distinguish them from the people. So these distinguishing signs which some people wish to be distinguished by way of religious practice and from the Muslims, then these (people) are people of misguidance who are similar to the khawaarij in their (act of) shaving. As for the one who shaves because it is permissible, he is not included in this In-Shaa-Allaah, except if he adopts it as a distinguishing sign. The Most Harmful Ones Amongst Ahlul Bidah- The Rawaafid and the Khawaarij

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Madkhalee (may Allaah preserve him) said:

By Allaah, Islaam and the Muslims are not ruined except by these categories of (people) amongst the people of bidah and misguidance–the khawaarij (i.e. such as ISIS etc) and those similar to them, and those who are worse than them, such as the Rawaafid (i.e. Rawaafid Shiittes of Iran, Iraq and elsewhere).

The Rawaafid are worse than the khawaarij. And Ikhwaan al-Muslimoon (i.e. the Muslim brotherhood sect in Egypt and elsewhere) ally with them and say: “They (i.e. rawaafid) are our brothers; the differing between us and them is like the differing between (Imaam) Maalik and (Imaam) Shaafi’ee”- meaning: The differing between us (i.e. Ikhwaan al-Muslimoon) and them (i.e. rawaafid shiites) is based on ijtihaad, and if Imaam (Maalik) and (Imaam) Shafee’ee differ in (some) affairs, they are all rewarded; and if we (ikhwaan al-muslimoon) differ with the rawaafid shiites, then us and them are rewarded.

O deceivers! (i.e. Ikhwaanis) The rawaafid (shiites) revile the Sahaabah and declare them disbelievers; they revile the wives of the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallaam); they say that the Qur’aan is distorted; they have shir’kiyyaat (beliefs and acts of polytheism) and they deify the leaders of the Prophet’s family.  So does all this not harm them (i.e. harm their claim to Islaam)? Is this not irjaa?! (i.e. O Ikhwaanis! Is this not Irjaa that you consider the differing between you and them to be similar to the differing between Imaams Maalik and Shaafi’ee)

The Ruling on the Common people of the Rawaafid (shia)—Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadee (may Allaah preserve him)

Question:

Our Shaikh (may Allaah preserve you); the questioner says: What is the ruling on the common people of the Rawaafid (shia) and how do we deal with them?

Answer:

The questioner differentiates between the common people and other than them; this is a good approach. The common people who neither speak ill of the wives of the Messenger of Allaah (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) nor do they make takfeer of the Sahaabah (radiyallaahu-anhum), nor do they believe that the Qur’aan is distorted; but they have some Rafd (i.e. beliefs of the raafidah) and some hatred for the Sahaabah without making takfeer of them and what is similar to (these actions); then these ones are misguided innovators and we do not declare them disbelievers. And whoever joins their heretics in making takfeer of Muhammad’s (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) Sahaabah; in speaking ill of the wives of the Messenger of Allaah (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam); in the filthy belief that the Qur’aan has been distorted, and that there is an addition and deficiency in it, then this (person) is a disbeliever similar to the disbelievers of the Yahood and Nasaaraa—there is no differentiation between their common people and their scholars (in this affair).

Question

How do we deal with them?

Answer:

If dealing with them is with regards to a worldly affair—business transactions and what is similar to that—(then) it is permissible to trade with a Jew, a Christian and a Raafidee; but as for co-operating with them in the affairs of religion, then never. [Allaah (The Most High)] said: [وَلَا تَعَاوَنُواْ عَلَى ٱلۡإِثۡمِ وَٱلۡعُدۡوَٲنِ‌ۚ] ‘’Do not help one another in sin and transgression.’’ [5:2] Rather their scholars and callers are boycotted and they are warned against.
