In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy
Allaah (The Most High) said:
وَلَا تَسْتَوِي الْحَسَنَةُ وَلَا السَّيِّئَةُ ۚ ادْفَعْ بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ فَإِذَا الَّذِي بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَهُ عَدَاوَةٌ كَأَنَّهُ وَلِيٌّ حَمِيمٌ
The good deed and the evil deed cannot be equal. Repel (the evil) with one which is better (i.e. Allah ordered the faithful believers to be patient at the time of anger, and to excuse those who treat them badly), then verily! he, between whom and you there was enmity, (will become) as though he was a close friend.
But none is granted it (the above quality) except those who are patient, and none is granted it except the owner of the great portion (of the happiness in the Hereafter i.e. Paradise and in this world of a high moral character)
(The good deed and the evil deed cannot be equal] – meaning: There is a big difference between this (i.e. a good deed) and this (i.e. an evil deed).
(Repel (the evil) with one which is better]-meaning: The one who does wrong to you, repel (his evil) by treating him in a good manner.
[فَإِذَا الَّذِي بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَهُ عَدَاوَةٌ كَأَنَّهُ وَلِيٌّ حَمِيمٌ – (then verily he, between whom and you there was enmity, (will become) as though he was a close friend]–meaning: If you (return) good treatment to the one who treat you badly, this good deed (or treatment) will lead to reconciliation and love. He will show you affection and become as if he is a close friend to you, and shows you pity and kindness. Then Allah says:
[وَمَا يُلَقَّاهَا إِلَّا الَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا- But none is granted it except those who are patient]-meaning: No one accepts this advice and acts in accordance with it, except for the one who exercises patience in that, because it is hard on the souls (i.e. difficult for people to act upon it).
[وَمَا يُلَقَّاهَا إِلَّا ذُو حَظٍّ عَظِيمٍ – and none is granted it except the owner of the great portion] – meaning: The one who has an ample share of happiness in this world and in the Hereafter. Ali bin Abee Talhah said that Ibn Abbas said in his explanation of this Ayah: “Allaah command the believers to exercise patience when they are angry, to be forbearing when encountered with ignorance and to forgive when treated badly; for if they do that, Allaah will protect them from shaytaan and make their enemies humble (in their presence) until they become like close friends.

Imaam Muhammad bin Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [May Allah have mercy on him] said:
“I encourage my brothers, especially the students of knowledge, to be eager to understand the meaning of the noble Qur’aan, because indeed the noble Qur’aan was revealed [as a guide for the people in their acts of ] worship – by reciting it and contemplating on its meaning.
Allaah [The Most High] said:
“[This is] a blessed book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.””

The Noblest Type of Knowledge In The Qur’aan
The knowledge of Tawheed is the noblest aspect of knowledge without exception. It is the most virtuous and perfect. By way of it the hearts are nurtured upon a sound creed. By way of it, moral character is purified and deeds are perfected. The subject matter of Tawheed is based on the following:
To study what is obligatory to affirm for Allaah regarding His perfect Attributes and lofty descriptions, and that which makes it impossible to either describe Allaah with deficient and blameworthy attributes, or likening Him to others.
To study that which establishes the fact that Allaah alone brought about all things into existence and that He does whatever He wills-whatever He wishes will take place and whatever he does not wish cannot take place.
Likewise, studying what is obligatory regarding belief in the Messengers, their qualities and the rights due to them, and what is forbidden with regards to violation of such rights.
Belief in the Books revealed to the Messengers and in that which Allaah has stated about Himself, and that which His Messengers stated regarding the events of the past and the future.
Belief in the last day, recompense, reward and punishment, the paradise and hell fire, and that which is stated and connected to these affairs.
These are the general affairs of this lofty affair of knowledge. Indeed the Qur’aan has explained these affairs with a profound explanation and clarified it in a manner that is not equal to [its explanation and clarification] in the other revealed books.

Al-Allaamah Rabi’ Bin Hadee Al-Madhkali [May Allah preserve him] said:
“The scholars in our religion are not followed except if their speech is based upon text from the Kitaab [Quran] and Sunnah. If their speech opposes the texts, it becomes compulsory to reject it. If it [i.e. their speech] is devoid of evidence, it is not obligated on anyone to follow them [i.e. that statement of theirs].”

Allaah [The Most High] said:
And (remember) when We said to the angels; “Prostrate to Adam.” So they prostrated except Iblis (Satan). He was one of the jinns; he disobeyed the Command of his Lord. Will you then take him (Iblis) and his offspring as protectors and helpers rather than Me while they are enemies to you? What an evil is the exchange for the Zalimun. [18:50]
Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] stated:
Allaah says to His slaves: I ennobled your father; raised his rank and gave him preference over others. I commanded all the angels to prostrate to him as a [sign] of honour and nobility, and they obeyed Me; but my enemy and yours [i.e. Iblees] refused [to prostrate] and disobeyed my command. He refrained from obeying Me [Allaah], so how can it be fair seeming to you [sons of Aadam] that you take him and his offspring as allies besides Me [Allaah]- obeying him and disobeying Me; allying with him against what pleases Me, whilst they [Iblees and his offspring] are the severest enemies to you. So you ally with My enemy and he commands you with his enmity. Whoever allies with an enemy of a king, then he is the same as the enemy of the king, for indeed love and obedience cannot be complete except by way of having enmity towards the enemy of the one you follow and having allegiance to the friends of the one you follow. As for having allegiance to the enemy of the king and then claiming that you are the ally of the king, this is impossible…..[Source: Al-Jawaab al-Kaafi…118-119. abridged]

Allaah [The Most High] said:
وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ مَا هُوَ شِفَآءٌ۬ وَرَحۡمَةٌ۬ لِّلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَۙ
And We send down from the Qur’an that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe (in Islamic Monotheism and act on it). [Soorah Al-Israa: Ayah 82]
There are three statements [of the scholars] regarding the Qur’aan being a healing: [a] It is a healing for misguidance due to what it contains of guidance; [b] It is healing for illnesses due to what it contains of blessings; [c] It is healing due to its explanation and clarification of the obligatory duties and rulings of the religion. [1]
The Qur’aan is a healing for the hearts. It heals the diseases of ignorance, doubt and scepticism. Allaah [The Most High] has never revealed a cure that is neither more comprehensive and beneficial, nor greater and quicker in removing diseases than the Qur’aan. [2]
The Qur’aan contains a healing for all [diseases] of the heart, such the disease of Shubhah [i.e. an affair that is made to resemble truth but is falsehood in reality], ignorance, corrupt views, perversion and evil aims; for indeed the Qur’aan is gathered upon ‘Al-Ilm Al-Yaqeenee-i.e. Knowledge of Absolute Certainty’ by way of which every shubhah and affair of ignorance is removed. It contains an admonition and a reminder by way of which every desire that is in opposition to the command of Allaah is removed. It is a healing for the bodies from what is harmful to them and its illnesses. As for it being a Mercy, it is due to the means and paths it guides to. If the servant acts [upon those means and follows those paths], he [or she] will be successful, receive Mercy, an everlasting happiness, reward in this worldly life and everlasting reward in the Hereafter. [3]
It (i.e. the Qur’aan) combines healing for the diseases of the heart, such as doubt, hypocrisy and other than that. It is a healing for the bodies when utilised for ruqya, such as what took place in the story of the man who performed ruqya with Soorah Faatihah on a man who was stung [by a scorpion]…. [4]

Allaah [The Most High] said:
And know that, among you there is the Messenger of Allah. If he were to obey you (i.e. follow your opinions and desires) in much of the matter, you would surely be in trouble, but Allah has endeared the Faith to you and has beautified it in your hearts, and has made disbelief, wickedness and disobedience (to Allah and His Messenger) hateful to you. These! They are the rightly guided ones, (This is) a Grace from Allah and His Favour. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise. [Soorah al-Hujuraat: Ayah 7-8]
Your love for Imaan, desire for it and its beautification in your hearts is not from yourselves; rather it is Allaah who placed it in your hearts. He is the one who made it preferable and pleasing to you; therefore do not put yourself before Allaah’s Messenger- neither speak until he speaks nor act until he commands you. The one [i.e. Allaah] who made you love Imaan is the most knowledgeable concerning what is of benefit for His slaves than yourselves. And had it not been the Tawfeeq of Allaah upon you, your souls would not have submitted to Imaan.

Allaah [The Most High] said:
وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّبِعُوا سَبِيلَنَا وَلْنَحْمِلْ خَطَايَاكُمْ وَمَا هُم بِحَامِلِينَ مِنْ خَطَايَاهُم مِّن شَيْءٍ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ
And those who disbelieve say to those who believe: “Follow our way and we will verily bear your sins,” never will they bear anything of their sins. Surely, they are liars. [29:12]
Imaam Ibn Katheer [rahimahullaah] said:
Allaah [The Most High] informed (us) about the disbelievers of Quraish that they said to those who believed [in the message of Muhammad] and followed the [right] guidance: ‘’Abandon your religion, return to our religion and follow our way. We will verily bear your sins if you have any’’, just as a person says, ‘’Do this and your sin is upon my neck’’. So Allaah declared their statement false, saying that never will they [i.e. the Quraish] bear anything of their [i.e. the believers] sins. Surely, they are liars. That is because no one will bear anything of the sins of others. 1
Imaam At-Tabari [rahimahullaah] said:
They [i.e. disbelievers of Quraish] said [to the believers]: Be upon the likes of what we are upon, such as our denial of the resurrection after death and that there will be no good recompense and punishment for the deeds of the people. If you follow our way in these affairs and are raised up after death [i.e. we doubt that will happen], and you are recompensed for your deeds, we will indeed bear the burden of your sins.2
Imaam Ibnul Jawzi [rahimahullaah] said that Mujaahid [rahimahullaah] said:
This is the statement of the disbelievers of Quraish to those believers amongst the people of Makkah; they said to them: ‘’Neither we nor you will be resurrected, so follow us. If anything is brought against you [i.e. we doubt that will happen], the burden will be on us.’’ Allaah said that they [i.e. disbelievers of Quraish] are liars due to the claim that they will bear the sins of the [believers]. 3
