Shaikh Fawzaan says: The One Who Praises Innovators Is One of Two People….

Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan (may Allaah preserve him) said:

It is not permissible to exalt and praise the innovators even if they have some truth with them. That is because raising and praising them will spread their bidah and places them amongst the sincere ones-those who are taken as examples amongst distinguished men of this Ummah. The Salaf warned against having trust for the innovators; (warned against) praising them and their gatherings. In this regard, Asad Ibn Musa (rahimahullaah) wrote: ”Beware of being a brother of the innovator (by association) or a companion of his, or one whom you sit with. For indeed it has been narrated that ‘whoever sits with a person of innovation has left the protection of Allaah and is entrusted to himself. Whoever proceeds towards a person of innovation has proceeded towards the destruction of Islaam.”

The innovators must be warned against and kept away from even if they have some truth with them. Indeed, the most astray are not devoid of something of the truth, but as long as they have with them innovation, opposition and sinful views, it is not permissible to praise and exalt them. It is impermissible to not have an objection towards their innovation because in this is spreading of bidah and belittling the Sunnah; and through this the innovator will emerge and become a guide for the Ummah.

As for the consideration that he has something of the truth, this does not justify praising him. This is to a far greater extent against that which is of overriding benefit and it is known with regards to a principle of the religion that averting harm takes precedence over seeking that which is of benefit. And with regards to showing animosity towards the innovator, the harm that is averted from the Ummah is weightier than what he has of benefit. And had we adhered to this concept, no one would have been judged to be misguided and declared an innovator. This is because there is not an innovator except that he has with him some of that which is from the truth and adherence to the Sunnah. The innovator (may) neither be a disbeliever nor is he in opposition to all the Islamic legislation; rather he is either an innovator in some or most of the affairs. However, if the innovation is particularly to do with affairs of Creed and Methodology, then the affair is dangerous indeed- because it will become example (to follow); innovation will spread and the innovators will become active in spreading their innovation.

So, this one- who praises the innovators and makes their affair obscure to the people with what they (innovators) have with them of truth- is one of two (people): He is either one ignorant of the methodology of the pious predecessors and their stance against the innovators, and it is neither permissible for this ignorant one to speak nor is it permissible for the Muslims to listen to him; or he is one who has an objection to the truth because he knows the danger of innovation and the innovators, but he is one who has an objection and wishes to spread innovations. Nevertheless, this is a dangerous affair and it is not permissible to be lackadaisical with regards to innovation and its people, whatever that may be.  [Source: At-Tabdee Wat-Tafseeq Wat Takfeer. Why The Salaf Named The People of Innovation ‘Ahlul Ahwaa’ (People of Desires?)

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah) said:

It is well known that the mere (act) of shunning by those who (show) aversion or the love of those who (show) agreement are neither an indication of the correctness nor corruption of a statement, except when it is based on guidance from Allaah. Rather merely (using) a statement as proof (without guidance from Allaah) is tantamount to following desires based on other than guidance from Allaah. Indeed a person following what he desires is tantamount to following a statement and action he loves, and rejecting a statement and action he hates without guidance from Allaah.  Allaah (The Most High) said:

وَإِنَّ كَثِيرً۬ا لَّيُضِلُّونَ بِأَهۡوَآٮِٕهِم بِغَيۡرِ عِلۡمٍ‌ۗ

And surely many do lead (mankind) astray by their own desires through lack of knowledge. [6:119]

Allaah (The Most High) said:

فَإِن لَّمۡ يَسۡتَجِيبُواْ لَكَ فَٱعۡلَمۡ أَنَّمَا يَتَّبِعُونَ أَهۡوَآءَهُمۡ‌ۚ وَمَنۡ أَضَلُّ مِمَّنِ ٱتَّبَعَ هَوَٮٰهُ بِغَيۡرِ هُدً۬ى مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ

But if they answer you not (i.e. do not believe in your doctrine of Islamic Monotheism, nor follow you), then know that they only follow their own lusts. And who is more astray than one who follows his own lusts, without guidance from Allah? [28:50]

And Allaah (The Most High) said to Dawud (alayhis-salaam)

And follow not your desire for it will mislead you from the Path of Allah. [38:26]

Allaah (The Most High) said:

فَإِن شَهِدُواْ فَلاَ تَشْهَدْ مَعَهُمْ وَلاَ تَتَّبِعْ أَهْوَاء الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِآيَاتِنَا وَالَّذِينَ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالآخِرَةِ وَهُم بِرَبِّهِمْ يَعْدِلُونَ

Then if they testify, testify not you (O Muhammad) with them. And you should not follow the vain desires of such as treat OurAyat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) as falsehoods, and such as believe not in the Hereafter, and they hold others as equal (in worship) with their Lord. [6:150]

Allaah (The Most High) said:

Say (O Muhammad): “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians)! Exceed not the limits in your religion (by believing in something) other than the truth, and do not follow the vain desires of people who went astray in times gone by, and who misled many, and strayed (themselves) from the Right Path. [5:77]

Allaah (The Most High) said:

Never will the Jews nor the Christians be pleased with you (O Muhammad Peace be upon him) till you follow their religion. Say: “Verily, the Guidance of Allah (i.e. Islamic Monotheism) that is the (only) Guidance. And if you (O Muhammad Peace be upon him) were to follow their (Jews and Christians) desires after what you have received of Knowledge (i.e. the Qur’an), then you would have against Allah neither any Wali (protector or guardian) nor any helper. [2:120]

So whoever follows the desires of the people after the knowledge Allaah has sent with His Messenger, and after Allaah’s guidance which He clarified for His slaves, then he (i.e. such a person) is of this likeness. And because of this, the Salaf named the people of innovation and splitting-those who oppose the Book and the Sunnah (with their innovations)-ahlul ahwaa (the people of desires) due to the fact that they accept what they love and reject what they hate based on their desires without guidance from Allaah.

The Messengers Are The Most Judicious Amongst The Creation, So Whoever Is Closest to Them by Following Their Way Will Receive a Greater Share of This Judiciouness

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) stated:

The Messengers (of Allaah) are the most judicious amongst the creation without exception and after them their followers are the most judicious group. The people of the scriptures and the great legislated laws are the most judicious amongst them (i.e. amongst the followers of the Messengers) and the Muslims are the most judicious amongst them (i.e. the followers of the scriptures and great legislated laws). The Sahaabah are the most judicious amongst the Muslims and then those who followed them exactly in faith. Ahlus Sunnah Wal Hadeeth (i.e. the people who follow the authentic Sunnah, the authentic ahaadeeth and understanding of the comapnions in creed, methodology, dealings etc) are the most judicious amongst the Muslim Ummah without exception after them (i.e. after the Sahaabah, the Taabi’een and the At’baa At’taabi’een).

The clear evidence showing that (the Messengers are the most judicious amongst the entire creation) is that the beneficial knowledge they have brought- the righteous actions, beneficial affairs of true well-being in this worldly life and the afterlife- has not emanated (from others), or something even close it. There is nothing- from any perspective- that emanated from other judicious (personalities) that can be compared to (what the Messengers brought with regards to beneficial knowledge, righteous action and the beneficial affairs of true well-being in this worldly life and the afterlife).

Whoever ponders upon their personal life stories in specific and in general- their patience and perseverance; their abstinence from the lawful but unnecessary worldly things; their fervent desire for Allaah and the reward He has kept in the afterlife; their purified manners and being characterized with the most pleasant of them; and the fact that they are the most truthful amongst the creation; (possessors) of the most righteous hearts; (possessors) of the most purified souls; trustees of the greatest trust; the noblest of those whom a person can accompany; the purest in their innermost conscience; the purest with regards to their private affairs- will not doubt the fact that they are the most judicious amongst Allaah’s creation without exception. There is no doubt that whoever is closer to them (i.e. follows them properly), then his (or her) share of judiciousness will be more than (that of others). A Great Sacrifice of ‘Ameerul Mu’mineen’ Uthmaan (radiyallaahu-anhu) In Order to Prevent Bloodshed

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) said:

When he (radiyallaahu-anhu) knew that he would be killed due to what he could see and observe regarding the events and signs, he refrained from fighting and from defending himself lest fighting occurs between the Muslims, whose final end result would lead to his murder, thus he preferred to be killed instead of (starting) a fight between the Muslims.

Few Excerpts From Shaikh Rabee for the Sensible Person to Contemplate Upon Regarding Celebrating Milaadun Nabiy

The Shaikh (may Allaah preserve him) stated:

*If you do (or revive) a deed (i.e. a deed that is established in the Islamic legislation by way of proof) which was forgotten (or abandoned) by the people, then indeed you have started (or restarted) a good Sunnah for them.

*As for innovating something (i.e. religious beliefs and practices) in the religion which are not to be found in it, then this is bidah about which the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: ‘’Whoever innovates in this affair of ours that which is not from it will have it rejected.’’

Allaah (The Most High) said:

[أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَاء شَرَعُوا لَهُم مِّنَ الدِّينِ مَا لَمْ يَأْذَن بِهِ اللَّهُ -Or have they partners with Allah (false gods), who have instituted for them a religion which Allah has not allowed] [42:21]

*If this (Mawlid) was something good, the Messenger of Allaah (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) and the Sahaabah would have preceeded us to it.

Indeed, the companions knew the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) and they loved him more than us, but many of us (i.e. those who celebrate Mawlid) unfortunately do not know him (i.e. his authentic Sunnah and his ways) except by way of this (Mawlid). As for the Sahaabah, they (radiyallaahu-anhum), knew his every moment; they spent their wealth to aid Allaah’s (The Mighty and Majestic) religion and to raise Allaah’s Word (i.e. Laa ilaaha ilal-laah). They demonstrated their love for the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) through their belief in him, followed him, sacrificed their lives and their wealth to aid his religion.

*As for these ones (i.e. those heads of misguidance who call the people to celebrate the Mawlid), they say that they love the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) and they initiate these Mawlids because it includes devouring the wealth of the people by way of falsehood, and they commit shirk, fictitious deeds and misguidance in these Mawlids (i.e. the practices of the extreme soofiyyah). Is this the religion of Allaah? Is the one who initiated this to be praised?

*Those who first initiated this Mawlid were the Baatiniyyoon-the enemies of Allaah and His Messenger, and enemies of the religion of Islaam. They brought this filthy innovation, which is now defended by a people who claim that they are from Ahlus Sunnah, whilst unfortunately they are from the people of misguidance.  [Abridged and slightly paraphrased…see

Your Reliable, Fast and Efficient Car Is Provision From Allaah, So Do Not Be Haughty!

Sulaymaan Bin Yasaar (rahimahullaah) reported that a people were on a journey, so they said when they were about to depart:

 سُـبْحانَ الَّذي سَخَّـرَ لَنا هذا وَما كُنّا لَهُ مُقْـرِنين

وَإِنّا إِلى رَبِّنـا لَمُنْقَـلِبون

Reminder: A Beautiful Observation by Imaam Ibnul Qayyim Regarding the Reason behind the Misguidance of Some of Those Who Came After the Sahaabah

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) said:

As for those who came after the Sahaabah (i.e. us), among them is that one who was brought up in Islaam but knows not what is in opposition to it. Therefore, some of the details of the path of the believers and that of the criminals became confusing to him, for indeed confusion occurs due to the weakness of one’s knowledge regarding either paths or one of them, as Umar Ibnul Khattaab (radiyallaahu-anhu) said:

”The ties of Islaam will be demolished one after the other when a people brought up in Islaam know not what Jaahiliyyah (Pre-Islamic Ignorance) is.”

This (statement indicates) Umar’s excellent knowledge.  And if you do not know what pre-Islamic ignorance and its rulings are, then it is all that is in opposition to what the Messenger came with-all (affairs) that are in opposition to the Messenger is tantamount to ignorance.

And there is that one who is neither acquainted with the path of the criminals nor has it been made clear to him, or he has doubts and thus thinks that some of their ways are from the ways of the believers. This has occurred in this Ummah in many affairs pertaining to Aqeedah, Knowledge and Action from the path of the criminals, the disbelievers and the enemies of the Messengers, (which) was brought into the path of the believers by the one who does not know the (detailed distinction between) the path of believers and the path of the criminals, so he calls to (this path of the criminals); excommunicates the one who opposes him and declares lawful that which Allaah and His Messenger made unlawful, just as what has occurred with many of the people of bidah, such as the Jahmiyyah, the Qadariyyah, the Khawaarij, the Rawaafid and their likes, among those who initiated an innovation, called to it and excommunicated those who opposed it.

Du’aa Made by a Man- Against Himself- To Prove His Misguidance Led To Severe Consequences

Abu Moosaa Muhammad Ibnul Muthannaa (rahimahullaah) said:

We used to read to a blind Shaikh, so when the (innovated) speech about the Qur’aan being created occurred in Baghdad the Shaikh said: ”If the Qur’aan is not created, then may the Qur’aan be wiped off my heart (i.e. from my memory).” He (Abu Moosaa) said: When we heard this speech of his, we abandoned him and turned away from him.  After some time period we met him and said to him: ”O such and such, what did the Qur’aan do?” He said: ”Nothing of it remains in my chest (i.e. in my memory).”  We said: ”Not even He said: ”Not even قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ  except when I hear it being recited by someone else.”

Seeking The Pleasure of The People Is an Unattainable Goal, So Fulfil Their Rights and Do Not Oppress Them, But Do Not Seek Their Pleasure To Displease Allaah!

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah) said:

And what is obligatory to know is that it is neither an admissible (idea) for the intellect (i.e. the sound, uncorrupted intellect) nor (plausible) in the religion to seek the pleasure of the creation (i.e. mankind) due to two affairs:

Firstly: Indeed this is not possible, just as (Imaam) Ash-Shaafi’ee said: The people are an unattainable goal. Therefore, upon you is to (pursue) the affair that rectifies (or make your affairs upright and) adhere to it. Leave what is besides it and do not concern (yourself with) it.

Secondly: Indeed, we have been commanded to (strive to attain) the pleasure of Allaah and His Messenger, as Allaah (The Most High) said: [وَاللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَحَقُّ أَن يُرْضُوهُ إِن كَانُوا مُؤْمِنِينَ – but it is more fitting that they should please Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad), if they are believers (9:62)]

Therefore, it is incumbent upon us to fear Allaah and not fear anyone except Allaah, as Allaah (The Most High) said: [فَلَا تَخَافُوهُمْ وَخَافُونِ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ – so fear them not, but fear Me, if you are (true) believers (3:175)]

Allaah said:

Therefore fear not men but fear Me (5:44)]

Allaah said:

[فَإِيَّايَ فَارْهَبُونِ – Then, fear Me (Allaah) much [and Me (Alone), i.e. be away from all kinds of sins and evil deeds that Allah has forbidden and do all that Allah has ordained and worship none but Allah (16:51)]

Allaah said:

[وَإِيَّايَ فَاتَّقُونِ – and fear Me and Me Alone (2:41)]

It is incumbent upon us to fear Allaah and to fear Allaah concerning the (rights) of the people- we should neither harm them with our hearts (i.e. unjustified hatred, blameworthy envy etc) nor with of our limbs (i.e. physical harm). We should fulfil their rights by way of our hearts and limbs, and we do not fear them and leave what Allaah and His Messenger commanded- out of fear of them. The one who adheres to this path, the (good) end results will be his, just as Aa’isha wrote to Mu’aawiyah, (saying), ‘’To proceed: Indeed, whoever seeks the pleasure of the people at the expense of Allaah’s Pleasure will (earn) Allaah’s displeasure and Allah will cause the people to be displeased with him. And the praise of the people will become blame against him.  And whoever seeks Allaah’s Pleasure at the expense of people’s pleasure, will (earn) Allaah’s Pleasure and Allah will cause the people to be pleased with him.”

So the believer’s consideration and intention is nothing else but to (seek) the pleasure of his Lord and avoid His displeasure, and the (good) end result will be his – ولا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله
