Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah) said:
”The initial affair with regards to the misguidance of the misguided one is that he gave precedence to his juristic reasoning over the texts from Allaah and precedence to his desires over following the commands of Allaah.”
”The people upon the correct understanding of the religion and those who cling to the (authentic) narrations of the [Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) and that of the pious predecessors] in all the regions are agreed that the people of philosophical rhetoric are people of bidah and deviation. (All the scholars) do not consider them to be from those who have been given sound understanding in the religion; rather the scholars are those who hold onto the (authentic) narrations of the [Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) and that of the pious predecessors] and they have been given sound understanding in that.”
”I am neither a person of philosophical rhetoric nor do I recognize philosophical rhetoric in anything. (I only recognize) that which is found in the Book of Allaah or in the Sunnah of His Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam).”
It is obligatory to be cautious of those ones who make false affairs fair seeming to the people by way of adorned speech—be it in affairs of Aqeedah, Manners or Manhaj. Their statements and actions are to be presented to the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of Allaah’s Messenger (for examination); so whatever affair they oppose (in the Book and the Sunnah, then their views and actions are regarded to be) falsehood, regardless of what it may be, and one is not to be deceived by what is contained in it of adorned speech, because as the saying goes: ”Adorned speech is an erroneous proof, such as a glass that is truly broken and every broken (glass) is shattered.” And do not say that those people have been given eloquence and the ability to speak clearly in order to aid the truth, for indeed Allaah (The Most High) may put people to the test, so a person may be given eloquence and the ability to speak clearly even though he is upon falsehood, just as Allaah will put the people to trial by way of the Dajjaal, whilst-without a doubt—the Dajjaal is upon falsehood. Imaam Muhammad Bin Abdul Wahhaab (rahimahullaah) said:
”They (i.e. the people of the pre-Islamic era of ignorance) attributed Deficiencies to Allaah…..
Sheikh Saaleh al Fawzaan (Hafidha-hullaah) explained the above, saying:
Deficiency is opposite to Perfection. Attributing deficiencies to Allaah (Glorified Be He) is a violation of His Lordship, and that is (case) when a son is attributed to Him because the father is in need of a son and is like him.
The Jews said that Ezra (alayhis-salaam) is Allaah’s son and the Christians said that The Messiah (alayhis-salaam) is Allaah’s son; and the Pagan Arabs said that The Angels are Allaah’s daughters; while, (on the other hand) the Christians declare their Monks free from having wives and sons; because (attributing this to the Monks) is a diminution of their rights. So these (Christians) do not declare Allaah free from that which they free their Monks.
Likewise, the Arabs hated having daughters, while (on the other hand) they attributed that to Allaah. So they attributed to Allaah what they hated for themselves and considered to be a disgrace and deficiency. Allaah said:
”And they assign daughters unto Allaah! Glorified and Exalted) is He above all that they associate with Him! And unto themselves what they desire’’ (16:57).
Allaah (The Most High) said:
وَيَجۡعَلُونَ لِلَّهِ مَا يَكۡرَهُونَ وَتَصِفُ
”They assign to Allaah that which they dislike (for themselves)” (16:62)
A Muslim Scholar went on a mission to one of the kings of Rome, so when he entered upon (the King) he said to him, ”How is the wife and the children? Thus, those who were present became angry because how can (this Muslim Scholar) describe their leader as having a wife and children! So (the Muslim Scholar) said to them, ‘you (people) free your leader from having a wife and a son, whilst (on the other hand) you attribute that to Allaah (The Mighty and Majestic) and you do not declare Him free from that! So he silenced them and debated with them, and greatly embarrassed them.

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh al-Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah) said:
Indeed, defeat of the Muslims occurred due to one act of disobedience (i.e. during the battle of Uhud). And at present we want victory whilst disobedience is plenty amongst us. And due to this it is not possible for us to rejoice with victory as long as we are upon this state of affairs, unless Allaah shows us kindness and rectify all of us.
