Do Not Feel Lonely In The Path of Guidance – By Shaikh Ahmad An-Najmi [rahimahullaah]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Shaikh Ahmad Bin Yahyah An-Najmi [rahimahullaah] said:

Know that the truth is that which Allaah has revealed and [given to] His Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] in the Book and the Sunnah, even if its adherents and those who embrace it are few. What came in the Islamic legislation is the truth, which a [person] is commanded to follow, even if the majority of the people free themselves from it and those who follow it are few.

Allaah [Glorified Be He] stated:

‘’Then We have put you (O Muhammad) on a plain way of (Our) commandment [like the one which We commanded Our Messengers before you (i.e. legal ways and laws of the Islamic Monotheism)]. So follow you that (Islamic Monotheism and its laws), and follow not the desires of those who know not. Verily, they can avail you nothing against Allah (if He wants to punish you). Verily, the Zalimun (wrong-doers, etc.) are Auliya’ (protectors, helpers, etc.) to one another, but Allah is the Wali (Helper, Protector, etc.) of the Muttaqun (pious).’’ [Al-Jaathiya: Aayaat 18-19]

Therefore, O slave of Allaah! Be eager to follow the truth; follow the straight path and the path of the pious predecessors-the companions of the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam]-and do not feel lonely due to the small numbers of those who follow it and the large numbers of those who oppose it; for indeed Ibraaheem [alayhis-salaam] was an Imaam on his own and with Allaah lies all success.

The Religion [Ordained By Allaah] Would Have Vanished Had Allaah Not Placed a Righteous Group Amongst The Previous Nations – By Imaam as-Sadi [rahimahullaah]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Allaah [The Most High] said:

If only there had been among the generations before you, persons having wisdom, prohibiting (others) from Al-Fasad (disbelief, polytheism, and all kinds of crimes and sins) in the earth, except a few of those whom We saved from among them. Those who did wrong pursued the enjoyment of good things of (this worldly) life, and were Mujrimun.. [11:116]

After Allaah mentioned the destruction of the nations that belied the Messengers [in Surah Hud Aayaat 25 – 115] and that the majority of them ifwere deviants, [including] even those who received the Scripture, then all of this necessitates that the religion [ordained by Allaah] would have vanished had Allaah not placed a righteous group amongst the pervious nations,  who called to guidance and forbade [the people] from mischief, and thus the benefit they left behind preserved parts of the religion. However, these people were very few. They were saved due their adherence to the way of the Messengers [of Allaah] and established what the Messengers established. As for the wrong doers, they carried on enjoying the good things of the worldly life [i.e. whilst persisting in wrongdoing], so they deserved punishment.

This Ayah compels the Muslim Ummah to have in place those who rectify the affairs when people become corrupt-those who will establish the religion ordained by Allaah and call the misguided people to guidance, whilst exercising patience due to the harm they will receive [in the path of rectification and calling to the path ordained by Allaah]. This is a high station desired by those who desire [good] and the person upon such a path becomes an [upright and rightly guided] leader in the religion  [ordained by Allaah] if he performs this deed sincerely for the sake of Allaah. [Ref 1]

The Scholars Are the Rectifiers of the Affairs

Shaikh Abdullah Bukhaari [may Allaah preserve him] said:

It is obligatory to attach the Ummah to the Rabbaani Scholars- those who are well known for their goodness, steadfastness, leadership and sound advice to the Ummah, and they are those who teach the smaller affairs of knowledge before the greater affairs.  Therefore, their status must be made known amongst the people because the scholars are the inheritors of the Prophets, as reported in the narration from the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam]. Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said in his explanation of this hadith: This is from the greatest virtues of the people of knowledge. And because the Prophets are the best of the creation, so their inheritors are the best after them. And when it is the case that everyone who is inherited from passes on inheritance to his inheritor, then the inheritors are those who take the place of those they inherit from. And none will take the place of the Messengers in propagating what they have been sent with, except the Scholars. They are the most worthy of their inheritance. [Ref 2]

Iblees and His Offspring Are The Enemies of Mankind!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Allaah [The Most High] said:

And (remember) when We said to the angels; “Prostrate to Adam.” So they prostrated except Iblis (Satan). He was one of the jinns; he disobeyed the Command of his Lord. Will you then take him (Iblis) and his offspring as protectors and helpers rather than Me while they are enemies to you? What an evil is the exchange for the Zalimun. [18:50]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] stated:

Allaah says to His slaves: I ennobled your father; raised his rank and gave him preference over others. I commanded all the angels to prostrate to him as a [sign] of honour and nobility, and they obeyed Me; but my enemy and yours [i.e. Iblees] refused [to prostrate] and disobeyed my command. He refrained from obeying Me [Allaah], so how can it be fair seeming to you [sons of Aadam] that you take him and his offspring as allies besides Me [Allaah]- obeying him and disobeying Me; allying with him against what pleases Me, whilst they [Iblees and his offspring] are the severest enemies to you. So you ally with My enemy and he commands you with his enmity. Whoever allies with an enemy of a king, then he is the same as the enemy of the king, for indeed love and obedience cannot be complete except by way of having enmity towards the enemy of the one you follow and having allegiance to the friends of the one you follow. As for having allegiance to the enemy of the king and then claiming that you are the ally of the king, this is impossible…..[Source: Al-Jawaab al-Kaafi…118-119. abridged]

A Healing For all The Diseases of The Heart

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Allaah [The Most High] said:

وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ مَا هُوَ شِفَآءٌ۬ وَرَحۡمَةٌ۬ لِّلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ‌ۙ

And We send down from the Qur’an that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe (in Islamic Monotheism and act on it). [Soorah Al-Israa: Ayah 82]

There are three statements [of the scholars] regarding the Qur’aan being a healing: [a] It is a healing for misguidance due to what it contains of guidance; [b] It is healing for illnesses due to what it contains of blessings; [c] It is healing due to its explanation and clarification of the obligatory duties and rulings of the religion. [1]

The Qur’aan is a healing for the hearts. It heals the diseases of ignorance, doubt and scepticism.  Allaah [The Most High] has never revealed a cure that is neither more comprehensive and beneficial, nor greater and quicker in removing diseases than the Qur’aan. [2]

The Qur’aan contains a healing for all [diseases] of the heart, such the disease of Shubhah [i.e. an affair that is made to resemble truth but is falsehood in reality], ignorance, corrupt views, perversion and evil aims; for indeed the Qur’aan is gathered upon ‘Al-Ilm Al-Yaqeenee-i.e. Knowledge of Absolute Certainty’ by way of which every shubhah and affair of ignorance is removed. It contains an admonition and a reminder by way of which every desire that is in opposition to the command of Allaah is removed. It is a healing for the bodies from what is harmful to them and its illnesses.  As for it being a Mercy, it is due to the means and paths it guides to. If the servant acts [upon those means and follows those paths], he [or she] will be successful, receive Mercy, an everlasting happiness, reward in this worldly life and everlasting reward in the Hereafter.  [3]

It (i.e. the Qur’aan) combines healing for the diseases of the heart, such as doubt, hypocrisy and other than that. It is a healing for the bodies when utilised for ruqya, such as what took place in the story of the man who performed ruqya with Soorah Faatihah on a man who was stung [by a scorpion]…. [4]

Our Lord! Make us not a trial for those who have disbelieved….

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

“Our Lord! Make us not a trial for those who have disbelieved, and forgive us, Our Lord! Verily, You, only You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.” [60:5]

Az-Zujaaj [rahimahullaah] said: The meaning of it is: Do not give them victory over us, so they think that they are upon truth and we are put to trial by way of that.

Murder, Suicide, Dodgy Contracts, Theft etc – all Impermissible

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Allaah [The Most High] said:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَأْكُلُوا أَمْوَالَكُمْ بَيْنَكُمْ بِالْبَاطِلِ إِلَّا أَنْ تَكُونَ تِجَارَةً عَنْ تَرَاضٍ مِنْكُمْ ۚ وَلَا تَقْتُلُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ بِكُمْ رَحِيمًا

O you who believe! Eat not up your property among yourselves unjustly except it be a trade amongst you, by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves (nor kill one another). Surely, Allah is Most Merciful to you. [4:29]

Few Reminders from the above Aayah

Allaah forbade His believing slaves [from] eating one another’s property in falsehood- through force, theft, gambling and [other] evil earnings; rather consuming your own wealth out of vanity and extravagance is included in this because it is considered a path of falsehood.

After forbidding [the servants] from consuming property through falsehood, Allaah made trade permissible for them and earnings that are free from what is unlawful- including contracts established through mutual consent and other than that.

[وَلَا تَقْتُلُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ – And do not kill yourselves]- Meaning: Neither kill one another [i.e. except what is legislated by Islamic law and executed by the authorities (Ref 1)], nor should a person kill himself [or herself] by bringing about destruction to oneself and engaging in dangerous activities that will lead to ruin and destruction.

[إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ بِكُمْ رَحِيمًا  – Surely, Allah is Most Merciful to you]- Meaning: And from Allaah’s Mercy is that He safeguards your lives and properties. He forbids you from wasting and ruining your lives and properties and legislated prescribed rulings in relation to that.

Ref 1: Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [rahimahullaah] stated about the statement of Allaah:

وَإِذَا بَطَشْتُمْ بَطَشْتُمْ جَبَّارِينَ

And when you seize, you seize as tyrants. [26:130]

This is a rebuke from Allaah against Aad-the people of Hud (alayhis-salaam). Allaah rebuked them with this and that they are oppressors who strike people without right. They oppress people by way of striking, killing and seizing wealth by force. This is a rebuke against them and a blameworthy trait of theirs. Therefore, this is not permissible; rather it is obligated on a Muslim that he does not take wealth except based on what is right and he does not strike anyone except based on what is right. He neither has a right to transgress against the people nor to strike them; rather he seeks what is right through the path of the Islamic Law. If he has a right to seek after, he should seek it through the courts; through an upright path and through the authorities. He does not strike the people by way of oppression, transgression and injury. He should not oppress them by confiscating their wealth and striking; rather it is obligated on him to take his rights through the path of the Islamic Law and from an Islamic perspective. This (i.e. this statement of Allaah) is a rebuke against Aad and a blameworthy affair for which Allaah sent a devastating barren wind against them. They used to oppress the people and transgressed against them.

Children and Wealth Are Temporary Gifts of This Worldly Life, So They Should Not Divert Us From The Remembrance of Allaah

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Allaah [The Most High] said:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تُلْهِكُمْ أَمْوَالُكُمْ وَلَا أَوْلَادُكُمْ عَنْ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ ۚ وَمَنْ يَفْعَلْ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ

O you who believe! Let not your properties or your children divert you from the remembrance of Allah. And whosoever does that, then they are the losers.” [Soorah Al-Munaafiqoon: Ayah 9]

Allaah [The Most High] commanded His believing slaves to remember Him a lot because in that there is profit, success and abundant good.  And He [The Most High] forbade them from being diverted from His Remembrance by their wealth and children because many souls have a natural inclination towards love of wealth and children, so he (a person) gives them precedence over love of Allaah and in that there is a great loss.  And for this reason He [The Most High] said: [وَمَنْ يَفْعَلْ ذَٰلِكَ – And whoever does that] – Meaning: Diverted by his wealth and children from the Remembrance of Allaah, [فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ -Then they are the losers] – Meaning: [Losers] in that eternal happiness and abiding bliss, because they preferred what will come to an end over what will abide forever.

They say, ‘’Busying Oneself with Refutations Is Not Correct!’’ – Shaikh Rabee Responds To This Claim

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

They say, ‘’Busying Oneself with Refutations Is Not Correct!’’

Shaikh Rabee [may Allaah preserve him] responded to the above as follows:

The people used to read -a lot- the books of deviated views and the libraries were rotting and filled with the books of misguidance and bidah, but they [i.e. those who object when one looks into the books of refutations] did not speak in this manner. However, when the people began to [truly follow] the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah based upon the methodology of the Pious Predecessors and found those books that warned them against Bidah and misguidance, they [i.e. those who object when one looks into the books of refutation] said, “Do not busy yourselves with these affairs; do not abandon knowledge”.

These refutations are from affairs of knowledge. To be acquainted with guidance and [distinguishing it] from misguidance; to be acquainted with good and [distinguishing it] from evil -by Allaah – is from knowledge that will protect [a person], just as Hudhaifah [radiyallaahu-anhu] said, “The people used to ask the Messenger of Allaah about the good, but I used to ask him about the evil out of fear of falling into it”. The books of the people of bidah and misguidance must be known by way of the books that refute them. So unless this happens, then [one should know that] many of the youth were not ruined except when they were deprived of the likes of these books that protect them. There is a means of protection for the youth in these books [i.e. the books written by the scholars to refute errors, misguidance and ahlul bidah etc].

The One Who Praises An Innovator Is One of Two People- By Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him] said:

It is not permissible to exalt and praise the innovators even if they have some truth with them. That is because raising and praising them will spread their bidah and place them amongst the sincere ones-those who are taken as examples amongst distinguished men of this Ummah. The Salaf warned against having trust for the innovators, [warned against] praising them and their gatherings. In this regard, Asad Ibn Musa [rahimahullaah] wrote: ‘’Beware of being a brother of the innovator [by association] or a companion of his, or one whom you sit with; for indeed it has been narrated that ‘Whoever sits with a person of innovation has left the protection of Allaah and is entrusted to himself’.

The innovators must be warned against and shunned even if they have some truth with them. Indeed, the most astray are not devoid of some truth, but as long as they have with them innovation, opposition and sinful views, it is not permissible to praise and exalt them. It is impermissible to not have an objection against their innovation because this spreads bidah, belittles the Sunnah and by way of this the innovator will emerge and become a guide for the Ummah.

As for giving consideration [to the fact] that the innovator has some truth, this does not justify praising him. This is -to a far greater extent- against what is of overriding benefit and it is known- in relation to a principle in the religion- that preventing harm takes precedence over seeking that which is of benefit. And with regards to having hatred for the innovator, the harm that is prevented from the Ummah is weightier than the benefit possessed by the innovator. And had we adhered to this concept [i.e. praising an innovator because he has some truth with him], then no one would have been judged to be misguided and declared an innovator. That is because there is not an innovator except that he has some truth and adherence to the Sunnah. The innovator [may] neither be a disbeliever nor be in opposition to all the Islamic legislation; rather he is either an innovator in some or most of the affairs. [Ref 1] However, if the innovation is particularly related to affairs of Creed and Methodology, then the affair is dangerous indeed because it will become an example [to be followed], innovation will spread and the innovators will become active in spreading their innovation.

So, this person who praises innovators and makes their affair obscure to the people -due to some truth they have – is one of two [people]: He is either one ignorant of the methodology of the pious predecessors and their stance against the innovators, and it is neither permissible for this ignorant one to speak nor is it permissible for the Muslims to listen to him; or he is one who has an objection to the truth because he knows the danger of innovation and the innovators, but he wishes to spread innovations. Nevertheless, this is a dangerous affair and it is not permissible to be lackadaisical with regards to innovation and its people, whatever that may be.

[Source: At-Tabdee Wat-Tafseeq Wat Takfeer. Page: 72-76. Abridged and slightly paraphrased]

Ref 1: Bidah Al-Mukaffirah and Bidah Al-Mufassiqah:

Bidah Al-Mukaffirah: It is the Bidah that is tantamount to disbelief. Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Madkhali (may Allaah preserve him) was asked whether there is a difference between Bidah Al-Mukaffirah and Bidah Al-Mufassiqah; so Shaikh said that there is Bidah Mukaffirah, such as rejecting the Ruyah (i.e. denying that the believers will see Allaah in the afterlife); rejecting Allaah’s Uluww [i.e. denying that Allaah is above his creation –Allaah ascended over the Throne in a way that benefits his majesty)]; invoking other than Allaah; offering slaughtered sacrifice (i.e. animals) to other than Allaah etc. These are affairs of Bidah Al-Mukaffirah (the bidah that is tantamount to disbelief).

But we do not make Takfeer of the people who commit this type of Bidah until we establish the proofs against them. That is because some of them (i.e. the people who fall into these affairs) carry doubts and are far away from the era of Prophethood and its light (i.e. guidance). So they fall into the likes these innovations.

Rejecting the Ruyah is disbelief; rejecting Allaah’s Uluww is disbelief; the saying that the Qur’aan is created is disbelief-major disbelief. But this person, -[who testifies that none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allaah, and he prays,  observes fasting, wants paradise and believes in that] -received the doubts of the people of falsehood, so he falls into the likes of these affairs (i.e. these innovations that are tantamount to disbelief). So we say to him: You have fallen into disbelief and the evidence is this and this, and we clarify for him.  So if Allaah grants him Tawfeeq and he returns to the truth, then all praise is due to Allaah. But if not, we declare him a disbeliever after establishing the proofs against him.

As for Bidah Al-Mufassiqah it is other than this (i.e. it is not at the level of that which is tantamount to disbelief)…. [Abridged and paraphrased, see www.rabee.net/ar/questions.php?cat=26&id=484 ]

Normalization of Evil Cannot Distract the People of Taqwa –By the Tawfeeq of Allaah

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Allaah [The Most High] said:

قُل لَّا يَسْتَوِي الْخَبِيثُ وَالطَّيِّبُ وَلَوْ أَعْجَبَكَ كَثْرَةُ الْخَبِيثِ ۚ فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ يَا أُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ

Say: “Not equal are Al-Khabith (all that is evil and bad as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods, etc.) and At-Taiyib (all that is good as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods, etc.), even though the abundance of Al-Khabith (evil) may please you.” So fear Allah much [(abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which He has forbidden) and love Allah much (perform all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained)], O men of understanding in order that you may be successful.

[Surah Al-Maa’idah Ayah 100]

[قُل -say (O Muhammad)] to mankind- Meaning: Warning against evil and desiring good;

[لَّا يَسْتَوِي الْخَبِيثُ وَالطَّيِّبُ  – Not equal are (all that is evil and bad) and At-Taiyib (all that is good)]- Meaning: Imaan is not equal to kufr; obedience to [Allaah and His Messenger] is not equal to disobedience to [Allaah and His Messenger]; the people of paradise are not equal to the people of hellfire; filthy deeds are not equal to good deeds, and unlawful wealth is not equal to lawful wealth.  [وَلَوْ أَعْجَبَكَ كَثْرَةُ الْخَبِيث  – even though the abundance of Al-Khabeeth (evil) may please you (people)]- Meaning: Indeed it will not benefit the person in anything, rather it will harm his religious and worldly affairs.

[فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ يَا أُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ – So fear Allah much (abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which He has forbidden) and love Allah much (perform all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained)], O men of understanding in order that you may be successful]
