Be fair in your dealings and may Allaah bless you!

Allaah (The Most High) said:

“Give full measure, and cause no loss (to others).”And weigh with the true and straight balance. “And defraud not people by reducing their things, nor do evil, making corruption and mischief in the land. “And fear Him Who created you and the generations of the men of old.” [26:181-184]

[6] Allaah’s Various Types of Punishments and Their Causes—Shaikh Abdullaah Ibn Salfeeq Adh-Dhufayree (may Allaah preserve him)

The All-Encompassing Wisdom of Allaah Regarding What He Has Decreed of Punishments

Indeed Allaah (The Most High) is All-Wise and All-Knowing regarding what He has decreed and what He causes to occur from what He has decreed; just as He is All-knowing with regards to what He legislated and commanded. He created what He willed of the [Universal Signs and Events] and He decreed various types of punishments in order to make His slaves fear (destruction) and as a reminder of what is obligated on them regarding the fulfilment of His Rights; as a warning against associating partners with Him; (a warning against being in) opposition to His commandments and (a warning against) committing what He has prohibited by way of opposing the Sunnah [of the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam)] and the guidance of those who were foremost to embrace Islaam (i.e. the Salaf). Allaah (Glorified and Exalted Be He) said: [وَمَا نُرۡسِلُ بِٱلۡأَيَـٰتِ إِلَّا تَخۡوِيفً۬ا] ”And We sent not the signs except to warn, and to make them afraid (of destruction).” [17:59]

Allaah (The Most High) said: [سَنُرِيهِمۡ ءَايَـٰتِنَا فِى ٱلۡأَفَاقِ وَفِىٓ أَنفُسِہِمۡ حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُمۡ أَنَّهُ ٱلۡحَقُّ‌ۗ أَوَلَمۡ يَكۡفِ بِرَبِّكَ أَنَّهُ ۥ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىۡءٍ۬ شَہِيدٌ ] ”We will show them Our Signs in the universe, and in their ownselves, until it becomes manifest to them that this (the Qur’an) is the truth. Is it not sufficient in regard to your Lord that He is a Witness over all things? [41:53]

Allaah (The Most High) said: [قُلۡ هُوَ ٱلۡقَادِرُ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يَبۡعَثَ عَلَيۡكُمۡ عَذَابً۬ا مِّن فَوۡقِكُمۡ أَوۡ مِن تَحۡتِ أَرۡجُلِكُمۡ أَوۡ يَلۡبِسَكُمۡ شِيَعً۬ا وَيُذِيقَ بَعۡضَكُم بَأۡسَ بَعۡضٍ‌ۗ] ”Say: “He has power to send torment on you from above or from under your feet, or to cover you with confusion in party strife, and make you to taste the violence of one another.” [6:65]

Abus Shaikh Al-Asfahaaniy (rahimahullaah) reported from  Mujaahid (rahimahullaah) that he said about this ayah:

[قُلۡ هُوَ ٱلۡقَادِرُ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يَبۡعَثَ عَلَيۡكُمۡ عَذَابً۬ا مِّن فَوۡقِكُمۡ-Say: “He has power to send torment on you from above]; meaning: destructive thunderbolts, stones and winds. [أَوۡ مِن تَحۡتِ أَرۡجُلِكُمۡ- or from under your feet]; meaning: earthquake and to make the earth swallow you.

All the calamities that take place, the trials and other than them by way of which the slaves receive harm and different types of injuries, then all of that is due to Shirk and acts of disobedience. Allaah (The Mighty and Majestic) said:

[وَمَآ أَصَـٰبَڪُم مِّن مُّصِيبَةٍ۬ فَبِمَا كَسَبَتۡ أَيۡدِيكُمۡ وَيَعۡفُواْ عَن كَثِيرٍ۬- ”And whatever of misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned. And He pardons much.” [42:30]

Allaah (The Most High) said: [مَّآ أَصَابَكَ مِنۡ حَسَنَةٍ۬ فَمِنَ ٱللَّهِ‌ۖ وَمَآ أَصَابَكَ مِن سَيِّئَةٍ۬ فَمِن نَّفۡسِكَ‌ۚ –Whatever of good reaches you, is from Allah, but whatever of evil befalls you, is from yourself]. 4:79

And Allaah (The Most High) said about the nations of the past:

”So We punished each (of them) for his sins, of them were some on whom We sent Hasiban (a violent wind with shower of stones) [as the people of Lout (Lot)], and of them were some who were overtaken by As-Saihah [torment – awful cry, etc. (as Thamud or Shu’aib’s people)], and of them were some whom We caused the earth to swallow [as Qarun (Korah)], and of them were some whom We drowned [as the people of Nuh (Noah), or Fir’aun (Pharaoh) and his people]. It was not Allah Who wronged them, but they wronged themselves.” [29:40]

Nourishment; Medication; Chronic illness and Severe Toothache; Poison—A similitude of four categories of people

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) said: When you confuse one of these groups with the other, you will find yourself in evil.

The First of them:

They are those whose company is like nourishment that one cannot do without in the morning and evening. One leaves it after fulfilling his need from it, and then returns to it when he is in need. This is how it is on a permanent basis (with such nourishment).  This similitude is more precious than red brimstone. The ones (intended in this similitude) are those who know Allaah, His commandments, the plots of His enemies, the diseases of the hearts and their remedies. They are sincere to Allaah, His Messenger and His creation. In this similitude (regarding) keeping their company, there is an all-embracing benefit.

The second category:

They are those whose company is similar to medication that is needed during illness. So, as long as you are healthy, you are not in need of intermingling with them. They are those you cannot do without in (seeking after) the beneficial things of livelihood and fulfilment of various dealings, partnerships, consultation, medication and the likes.

The Third category:

They are those whose company is similar to the diseases in their various classes and types, and the differences in their severity and mildness. Amongst them is one whose company is similar to chronic illness. It is this one who does not benefit you-neither in the religious nor worldly affairs, alongside the fact that you might either incur a loss in both your religious and worldly affairs or in one of them. So if intermingling with him is made possible, then it is that disease that is feared will lead to death. And amongst them is the one whose company is similar to a tooth ache whose pain becomes severe upon you, but when it leaves you the pain abates.

The Forth category:

It is the one whose company is absolute destruction and intermingling with him is similar to eating poison. How common is this similitude within the people! May Allaah not make them numerous, and they are Ahlul Bidah Wad Dalaalah (The people of innovation and misguidance). They are those who hinder (people) from the path of the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) and call to that which is in opposition to it. They are those who hinder (people) from the path of Allaah and seek to make it cooked; so they present innovation as Sunnah and Sunnah as innovation, and they present virtue as evil and evil as virtue. And when you established Tawheed amongst them, they say: You have degraded the Awliyaa (friends of Allaah) and the righteous people. And when you establish ittibaa (correct adherence to the path of the messenger with evidence) they say: You have invalidated (the affair) of the followed Imaams. And when you command that which Allaah and His Messenger command and forbid that which Allaah and His Messenger forbid, they say: You are from those who put people to trial.

Do not be deceived—you may not be described with what you know

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

How many people know about love of Allaah, its rulings and all the affairs it necessitates; but his heart is deprived of it?! And how many a slave knows and bears witness to the pre-decree of Allaah and the excellence of sufficing oneself with Him; but when that which has been decreed takes place in opposition to what he likes, you see him anxious—having neither tranquility (and) certainty nor repose?! And only the one whose heart has acquired knowledge and awareness of Allaah in truth is tranquil about Allaah being sufficient for him, whilst submitting to His judgments, whatever the state of affairs may turn out to be.  And how many people know the rulings of trade and its details; but at the time of dealing, buying and selling, he does not deal in a beautiful manner with others?!  This is the same in many affairs with regards to this pattern of behaviour.

Therefore, do not be deceived when you know something that you will be attributed to it, and that is why it is legislated for the slave to ask Allaah for beneficial knowledge, and that is knowledge that produces actions (as its fruits).  And Allaah knows best.

What increases shaytaan’s loyalty to a person?

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Shaytaan gives loyalty to a person in accordance with his lack of Imaan, as Allaah  (The Most High) said:

 إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا الشَّيَاطِينَ أَوْلِيَاءَ لِلَّذِينَ لا يُؤْمِنُونَ

”We made the Shayatin (devils) Auliya’ (protectors and helpers) for those who believe not.” [7:27]

And Allaah (The Most High) said:

”And whosoever turns away (blinds himself) from the remembrance of the Most Beneficent (Allah) (i.e. this Qur’an and worship of Allah), We appoint for him Shaitan (Satan – devil) to be a Qarin (an intimate companion) to him.  And verily, they (Satans / devils) hinder them from the Path (of Allah), but they think that they are guided aright!  Till, when (such a one) comes to Us, he says [to his Qarin (Satan / devil companion)] “Would that between me and you were the distance of the two easts (or the east and west)” a worst (type of) companion (indeed)!” [43:36-38]

Allaah (The Mot High) stated in the story of Yusuf (alayhis-salaam)

Thus it was, that We might turn away from him evil and illegal sexual intercourse. Surely, he was one of Our chosen, guided slaves.[12:24]

And this is proven by (the narration) in Saheeh Muslim from Jaabir (radiyallaahu-anhu) that the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: ”Iblis places his throne upon water; he then sends detachments (for creating dissension); the nearer to him in rank are those who are most notorious in creating dissension. One of them comes and says: I did so and so. And he says: You have done nothing. Then one amongst them comes and says: I did not spare so and so until I sowed the seed of discord between a husband and a wife. The Satan goes near him and says: ‘You have done well. A’mash said: He then embraces him.” [Saheeh Muslim. Number:2813]

Softening the hearts—‘’Had Allaah’s Messenger not forbidden us to invoke Allaah for death….

Narrated Qais: I heard Khabbab, who had branded his abdomen with seven brands, saying, “Had Allah’s Messenger not forbidden us to invoke Allah for death, I would have invoked Allah for death. The companions of Muhammad have left this world without taking anything of their reward in it but we have collected of the worldly wealth what we cannot spend but on earth.” [1]

Concerning the statement of Khabbaab (radiyallaahu-anhu): ”The companions of Muhammad have left this world without taking anything of their reward in it”; Imaam Abdul-Azeez Bin Baaz (rahimahullaah) said: They died upon tremendous good and did not reach the adornments of this worldly life. [2]

And concerning Khabbaab’s (radiyallaahu-anhu) statement:”But we have collected of the worldly wealth what we cannot spend but on earth”; Imaam Abdul-Azeez Bin Baaz (rahimahullaah) said: ”(Spent) on castles and houses.” [3]

Softening the hearts–Warning against competing in worldly pleasures and amusements

Narrated Abu Sa’eed (radiyallaahu-anhu): Allah’s Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: “The thing I am afraid of most for your sake, is the worldly blessings which Allah will bring forth to you.” It was said, “What are the blessings of this world?” The Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said, “The pleasures of the world.” A man said, “Can the good bring forth evil?” The Prophet kept quiet for a while till we thought that he was being inspired divinely. Then he started removing the sweat from his forehead and said,” Where is the questioner?” That man said, “I (am present).” Abu Sa’id added: We thanked the man when the result (of his question) was such. The Prophet said, “Good never brings forth but good. This wealth (of the world) is (like) green and sweet (fruit), and all the vegetation which grows on the bank of a stream either kills or nearly kills the animal that eats too much of it, except the animal that eats the Khadira (a kind of vegetation). Such an animal eats till its stomach is full and then it faces the sun and starts ruminating and then it passes out dung and urine and goes to eat again. This worldly wealth is (like) sweet (fruit), and if a person earns it (the wealth) in a legal way and spends it properly, then it is an excellent helper, and whoever earns it in an illegal way, he will be like the one who eats but is never satisfied.” [1]

Imaam Abdul-Azeez Bin Baaz (rahimahullaah) said: The Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) clarified that good only brings good.  Wealth is not absolute goodness, rather it is a trial. So whoever spends it in its rightful (place), then it is good; and whoever spends it in dubious ways, then it will be bad for him, such as the eater of the khadira (i.e. a kind of vegetation); but it becomes safe and sound when it defecates and urinates.
