من يجالس أهل البدع أشد علينا من أهل البدع

من يجالس أهل البدع أشد علينا من أهل البدع

Ibn Awn (rahimahullaah) said:

”Those who sit with the people of innovation are more severe upon us than the people of innovation themselves.”

[Al Ibaanah 2/273]

Hishaam Ibn Urwah: Do not question the people about what they have newly invented today, but question them…

كان هشام بن عروة يقول: لا تسألوا الناس اليوم عما أحدثوه فإنهم قد أعدوا له جوابا، ولكن سلوهم عن السنة فإنهم لا يعرفونها

Hishaam Bin Urwah (rahimahullaah) used to say:

”Do not question the people about what they have newly invented today (i.e. bidah), for indeed they have prepared answers for it. But question them about the Sunnah for indeed they do not know it.”

Our Salaf-No Salaam to Mubtadi’ah (Innovators)

Hammaad Bin Zayd (rahimahullaah) said: I was with Ayyoub, Yoonus and Ibn Awn, so Amr Ibn Bin Ubaid went past them and he used to be a Mutazili; he gave them Salaam and stopped, but they did not reply to him.

A Few Reminders for the youth!

Remember this whenever you are aggressive or abrupt in speech towards elders due to being deceived by your youth

Allaah (The Most High) said:

اللَّهُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ مِنْ ضَعْفٍ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِنْ بَعْدِ ضَعْفٍ قُوَّةً ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِنْ بَعْدِ قُوَّةٍ ضَعْفًا وَشَيْبَةً يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَاءُ وَهُوَ الْعَلِيمُ الْقَدِيرُ

”Allah is He Who created you in (a state of) weakness, then gave you strength after weakness, then after strength gave (you) weakness and grey hair. He creates what He wills. And it is He Who is the All-Knowing, the All-Powerful (i.e. Able to do all things).” [30:54]

Remember this whenever you are amazed with the little you know!

Allaah (The Most High) said:

وَٱللَّهُ أَخۡرَجَكُم مِّنۢ بُطُونِ أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ شَيۡـًٔ۬ا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَٱلۡأَبۡصَـٰرَ وَٱلۡأَفۡـِٔدَةَ‌ۙ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ

”And Allah has brought you out from the wombs of your mothers while you know nothing. And He gave you hearing, sight, and hearts that you might give thanks (to Allah).” [16:78]

Be Mindful of Self-Amazement, especially when your speech is received with acceptance

Imam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) stated in Al Fawaa-id (page 225) that Ibn Sad (rahimahullaah) stated in At Tabaqaat about Umar Ibn Abdul Azeez (rahimahullaah): Whenever he delivered a sermon and feared being amazed with himself, he would end it. And whenever he wrote a letter and feared amazement by way of it; he would tear it. And he would say: ”O Allaah! I seek refuge with you from the evil of my soul.”

[4] Imaam Ash-Shaafi’ee

Imaam Ash-Shaafi’ee (rahimahullaah) said:

It is necessary that the students of knowledge do their utmost to increase in seeking knowledge; exercising patience in facing every obstacle and having a sincere intention for the sake of Allaah (The Most High) in pursuit of it; for indeed actions are judged by intention. And they should have a fervent desire for Allaah’s Aid and Assistance because good cannot be reached except by the Help of Allaah.

Imaam Abu Daawud As-Sijistaani (rahimahullaah)

Imaam Dhahabi (rahimahullaah) stated: And it has reached us that Abu Daawud was from the diligent scholars who acted upon his knowledge, until some of the Imaams stated: Abu Daawud used to resemble Ahmad Bin Hanbal (in the manner in which he followed) the guidance, in conduct and character. Ahmad used to resemble Wakee in these (affairs) and Wakee used to resemble Sufyaan. Sufyaan used to resemble Mansoor in these (affairs) and Mansoor used to resemble Ibraaheem. Ibraaheem used to resemble Alqamah in these (affairs) and Alqamah used to resemble Ibn Mas’ood. And Alqamah said: Ibn Mas’ood used to resemble the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) in the manner he followed the guidance and in his conduct.

[1]Reminder: Do not just follow, especially when you witness unexpected changes in someone you looked up to!

Ibn Mas’ood (radiyallaahu-anhu) said:

”Do not be [إمعة–yes men], saying: If the people are good (or righteous), we are good (or righteous); and if they do wrong (or become unrighteous), we do wrong (or become unrighteous); but make up your mind; If the people do good (or are righteous), then be good (or righteous). If they do evil, then do not do wrong.”
