Softening the hearts [Saheeh Bukhaari: Chapter: One should always look at the one who is below him….

Narrated Abu Hurairah (radiyallaahu-anhu): Allaah’s Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: ”If anyone of you looked at a person who was made superior to him in wealth and (good) appearance, then let him also look at the one who is below him and to whom he has been made superior.” [1]

Imaam Abdul-Azeez Bin Baaz (rahimahullaah) said: So that he may recognize Allaah’s blessing upon him. And in another narration (it is stated): So that he does not belittle the blessings Allaah has bestowed upon him. [2]

[Saheeh Al-Bukhaari–Softening of the hearts—with short comments from Imaam Bin Baaz] Paradise is nearer to any of you than….

Narrated Abdullaah (radiyallaahu-anhu): ”The Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: Paradise is nearer to any of you than the Shiraak (leather strap) of his shoe, and so is the (Hell) fire.” [1]

Imaam Abdul-Azeez Bin Baaz (rahimahullaah) said: This (i.e. the above speech of the Prophet) is from Jawaami Al-kalim (i.e. a short expression with a vast meaning).  There is nothing between him (i.e. a person) and paradise except dying (in a state) of Imaan and (that can be within) a few moments.  And there is nothing between him and the hell fire except dying (in a state) of disbelief and (that can be within) a few moments. A Precise Rebuttal of the Vile Haddaadiyyah [Ghulaat-Extremists]—Those who attack Imaam Abu Haneefah (rahimahullaah)

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah) said:

مَنْ ظَنَّ بِأبِي حَنِيفة أو غيره من أئمة المسلمين أنهم يتعمَّدون مخالفة حديث رسول الله ـــصلى الله عليه وسلم ـــ الصحيح بقياس أو لغيره فقد أخطأ عليهم ويتكلم إما بِظنٍّ أو هوى

”Whoever think that Abu Haneefah or other than him from the Imaams of the Muslims deliberately opposed an authentic Hadeeth of the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) through Qiyaas or other than it, then indeed he (i.e. such a person) has spoken erroneously about them, and he has either spoken with speculation or desires.” [Quoted by Shaikh Muhammad Bin Haadi (may Allaah preserve him) in his explanation of Raf-ul Malaam. Audio Number 1: http://ar.miraath.net/book/8104]

Why is that the case? That is because these Imaams are all agreed (with certainty) that the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) has to be followed.

Our Salaf: A Thief Entered Malik Bin Dinaar’s House!

From Maalik bin Dinaar, that a thief entered upon him but did not find anything to steal, whereby Malik called out to him: ‘You won’t find any worldly thing to take, however, do you desire something for the Hereafter?’ The Thief answered: ‘Yes.’ Malik said: ‘Make Wudu and pray two Rakah.’  So he did likewise, then Malik sat for a while and went out to the Masjid and the thief went with him. Malik was asked: ‘Who is this?’ He said: ‘He came to steal from us but we ended up stealing him.’ [Siyar ‘A’laam 4/190]

Our Salaf: Al’Hasan Al’Basri—The Believer has a good suspicion of his Lord….

Al-Hasan Al-Basri (rahimahullaah) said:

”Indeed, the believer has a good suspicion of  his Lord and then (strives to) perfect his deeds. And indeed, the hypocrite has an evil suspicion of his Lord and then (engages) in evil deeds.”

Our Salaf—Knowledge and Action [Sufyaan Bin Uyaynah and Al-Hasan Al-Basri]

Sufyaan Bin Uyaynah (rahimahullaah) said:

”If my morning is like that of the foolish and my night is like that of the ignorant,

then what will I do with the knowledge I wrote down?”

[Source: Akhlaaq Al-Ulamaa’ of Imaam Al-Aajurree. Page: 44]

Al-Hasan Al-Basri (rahimahullaah) said:

”When a man used to seek knowledge, it did not take long before (the effect) was seen in his eyesight; in his fear of Allaah; on his tongue; on his hands; in his prayer and his abstinence from the lawful but unnecessary worldly things.”

Our Salaf: Looking into the Books of the People of Bidah and Misguidance

قال الامام أحمد – رحمه الله

إياكم أن تكتبوا عن أحد من أصحاب الأهواء ؛ قليلا ولا كثيرا

[كتاب السير   (11/231)]

Imaam Ahmad (rahimahullaah) said:

”Beware of writing down (knowledge) from one of the people of desires—neither a little nor a lot.”

[Siyar 11/231]

شهدت أبا زرعة سئل عن الحارث المحاسبي وكتبه ؛

: فقال للسائل

إياك وهذه الكتب هذه كتب بدع وضلالات

[كتاب الميزان  (2/165) ]

Sa’eed Ibn Amr Al-Bardha’ee (rahimahullaah) said:

”I witnessed (when) Abu Zur’ah was asked about Haarith Al-Muhaasibee and his books; so he said to the questioner: Beware of these books; they are books of bidah and misguidance.”

Our Salaf: Yunus Ibn Ubayd–I am amazed by three statements!

Yoonus Ibn Ubayd) [rahimahullaah] said: I am amazed by three statements! I am amazed by a statement of Muwarraq Al-Ajali, who said: ”I never said anything during anger, which I regretted during times of happiness.”

I am amazed by a statement of Muhammad Ibn Seereen, who said: ”I do not envy anyone for some worldly thing; for if he is going to be amongst the people of paradise, then how can I envy him for something of the worldly life, whilst he is destined for Paradise?! And if he is going to be amongst the people of the hell fire, then how can I envy him for something of the worldly life, whilst he is destined for the Hellfire?!”

And I am amazed by a statement of Hassaan Bin Abee Sinaan, who said: ”There is nothing easier for me than Wara (i.e. apprehensive fear); for if something is doubtful to me I leave it.”

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) said:
